Hi all, one of my co workers found this coin on ground, not sure what type it can be, size on this coin is a little smaller then a 25 cent coin, weight is about 7 grams or so as did not have my scale at work to do weight, any help on this would be great

    Hello,

what you found is a full sovereign, minted either in Ottawa ( C ), Bombay ( I ), Melbourne ( M ), Perth ( P ) or Sidney ( S ). You should find the mintmark on the bottom line right over the date.
Except from Ottawa all issues are quiet common and are sold for the buillon- value ( 7, 32 g grams of fine gold ).

But : is this coin genuine ? The striking seems a bit week to me compared to my 1918 I - sovereign, wich i include for comparisoning. A genuine full sovereign weighs 7,96 g . You could not go to a pharmacy to hav it weight ?

Thank you Mynter on your help, will tonight when at work look at coin again and do weight on it with my scale, on color of coin in picture was my camera doing that, picture came out with to much light on it
thank you once again, so you said mint mark should be on top of date, question if there is no mint mark then should be ? on mint where it was made?

    Hello Carl,

you can spot the mintmark just above the 9 and the 1 in 1918. I can spot something on your coin aswell, but I can not read it.

Sovereigns without a mintmark are struck in London, but London ceases coining gold in 1917, so for 1918 only the branch- coins for this type exist.

    Best regards, Mynter

At full magnification the date is more than 6" wide on my screen, and I can make out what appears to be a "P" righn on the line above the date.
