Soviet Era Coinage...Post 'em!!!

Like the local treatment to the hammer and sickle, no doubt to make it appeal locally.

 

I don't think it got much better than this from the Soviets, at least in terms of art. There was the 100 Rouble gold Peter The Great coin that was pretty attrative too, though I've never had a chance to add one to the collection at what I thought was a reasonable price (melt + 15% or so). I would still be interested in adding the coin at the right price. As for the proof Chervonet coin here, these were readily available up until about 2008 at which point they all vanished from the market place. I presume that means they have appreciated significantly since then. At one time as recently as 1998, this coin was considered a bullion coin even in proof.

The 1928 Soviet half kopek is one of my favorites, and not an easy coin to find.

 

Here's the only thing I can contribute that hasn't already been shown. One of the last Soviet commemoratives, and (for me) a really handsome coin.

It says on coin 30th anniversary of first manned spaceflight to cosmos. The monument was "new Soviet man" representing Yury Gagarin.

This was a lot tougher than I thought. Didn't bother to upgrade some of the coins as they can be absurdly priced.

1933 and 1934 5 kopek are tough in any condition.

 

Say what you will about the coins, but at least the Soviets were striking commemoratives in those years. Something the land of the brave apparently wasn't brave enough to pursue back in those years.

LOL, no idea. I just clicked on the "placeholder" image (on this computer it's a blue square with a white question mark) and it took me to that page. But yes, the design is neat.

Oh boy the woman just got me a nice baggie of 200+ kopek coins with a few rubles as well (60s-91) even a few 1s and 3s mixed in (mostly 2s 10s 15s and 20s)
Still working on sorting them out but FUN FUN FUN!!!
