I was looking through my coins and ran across a 1990 d penny. I know most is zinc with copper plating...but the edges and higher areas are rubbed off and they are a silver color. I have never seen any penny look like that. Anyone have a clue as to why? Thank you...
ok..so I was looking at some "pressed design" pennys I have and can see some slight silver color. I guess this peeny just didnt have much copper plating or something.
If it happened after the coin was struck it is PMD (post-mint damage). Rubbing would have happened after the coin was struck. The thin copper plating has worn away exposing the zinc core. Spend it.
