Just noticed Civil War dimes have very few examples on EBay and in web stores. The othet Civil War silver coins can be found especially 1861 and 1862 coins. Is there a specific reason for the dimes not being seen more often.

Well the dimes from the civil war have low mintages. 1.8 mill for 1861, 847,000 for 1862, only 14,000 for 1863, and only 11,000 for 1864. These are all philly mintages tho.

Also, along with coin collectors, civil war collectors love to collect coins as well as paper money from that era. I know a few guys that do re-enactments,and they actually carry coins in their pockets as well as paper in their wallets...just to feel that they are making it authentic.

Yes, the Civil War. The war caused all the prescious metal coinage to either be melted, exported, or hoarded so why produce a lot of coins that wouldn't circulate anyway? Mintages plummeted. Then in the 1870's when the hoarded coins came back they caused a glut of coinage in the federal vaults and must was melted and recoined.
