Hello, I am new to coin collecting and am needing a little help with some quarters. I found these while going through some change the other day and they just stood out to me. The first is a 2007-D Montana State Quarter that appears to have an almost missing D Mint Mark, and the ST in TRUST is very faded. The second is a 2002-D Tennessee State Quarter that has a line cut through the back side of the coin. The last two are 1990-D and 1992-P Washington Quarter the appear to have a small circle punched in it just on the inside of the outer edge of the coin. Any help with this is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Steve
First one is likely just grease filled die or die deterioration. Nothing special, pretty common. Second one is hard to tell. Could be a die crack, could be glue or some other foreign object causing the line through the reverse. Better more clearer pictures might help us determine that. As for the last two, those circles were made by rolling machines, so they're post mint damage and are worth face value. Use them to buy a snickers out of the nearest vending machine.
Welcome to CT! 1. Grease filled die error. Very common. 2. Struck with a cracked die. Edge to edge crack. May carry a premium 3 & 4. Rolling machine damage. I may be wrong on these, and if I am, I'm sure someone will come along soon to correct me.
Yep. Edge to edge die crack. A few strikes away from catastrophic die failure? I don't know about any possible premium, though.
