Ok as the post says, my woman is presently upset with me for spending $17.50 (above is typo, this is edit) on a "dirty penny". So I told her I would post it here and she could look at what you guys said in the morning..
I know I did very very well on this penny as I paid twice as much for the crappy hole filler that is presently in my set. Set her straight for me :D (seller's pic)

Sorry, you'll get no help on this forum. Nobody around here would ever spend more than a penny for a penny.;)

Yup, you should listen to your woman...

A penny is a penny - no more no less. Who in their right mind would pay a 1,750x premium for this dirty, old thing worth no more than face value?!

I think you did very well. That's at least a $30 flying eagle cent IMHO and what my two coin books say. It is at least a G4. Congrats.

I learned a long time ago that the only person who loses is the one who steps between a man and a woman who are arguing. Sorry! You'll get no help from me.

Maybe if you educate her more about the coin you bought it would not be an issue.
Or just tell her the truth you wanted the coin and you got it for that reason.

Tell the lady she is right. It's not possible to win because women are much smarter. Give here a $20 bill and tell her to have her nails done. ;)

You might try leaving articles around especially showing the 1992 cam that sold for $20,000+. It might get her off your back.

Do you really think that a woman would settle for just $20?

Numismedia.com lists the price for a G4 at $26, so you did good on that.

However, if you're going to make purchases like this, and want to avoid to chin music, you've got to buy her something that's nicer, and a little more money. Always make her feel like she's worth more than what you spend on coins :thumb:

I rather think if it graded XF or higher it would be slabbed.

Op, if this is going to be a regular thing, I would sit down with her and explain to her who she can contact to sell your coins if you are gone. Then in the future when she hears of another coin you bought, she just adds it to her prospective retirement fund. I guess I am saying if you show her how these purchases aren't money down the toilet like so many hobbies men have, she might be more open to your collecting. :)

Now, just to clarify, I never said coin collecting is an investment, its just we should expect to get a major portion of the money we spend back when we sell, unlike many or most other hobbies.

Btw, I think you did well on the FE cent. Tell her I don't even buy US coins anymore, but I would mail you a check today for $17.50 for it if you needed to move it.

    rickmp Frequently flatulent.

It's better than spending it on girlfriends.

Unless you're strapped for cash, $17.50 is nothing nowdays. It won't even buy a tank of gas for a small car...

And that is one beautiful coin. I don't yet own a Flying Eagle Cent. Hypothetically speaking (forum rules), If you were to put it up for sale in the For Sale section, I'd snatch it up for more than you paid for it. ;)
