I'm trying to transition from being a currency "hobbyist" into a serious collector. Up to this point, all but a small handful of my notes are circulation finds. As I begin to downsize my current collection and search for nicer notes...the question of storage has come to mind. I would greatly prefer to store my notes in a binder of some kind but I don't know what the best way to do it is. Any suggestions? Previously, I found some supposedly "safe" pages made by ultra pro that fit large size currency sleeves and was placing my small sized notes in the sleeves and then into the pages. I don't know if this is a decent storage method or not.
That looks okay. I recommend the Lighthouse binders, the Grande sized ones specifically, with the various page inserts with 2, 3, and 4 per page sheets. I have posted these images before, but I'll post them again here... Of course, I am partial to framing my notes...
Hey MEC, what do you use to package a raw sheet? I have a small size sheet of 4 coming in soon. I know a TPG can package it, but I don't want to do that just yet.
For 4 specimen sheets, I use: http://www.safepub.com/categories/archival-sleeves-cover-holders/p/cover-holders-comic-mediumweight
Any particular brand of pages and sleeves? Do you have your notes in side of sleeves before you insert them into the pages?
In addition to Camaro's above question, is there a difference between "Vario" Lighthouse pages and "Grande" Lighthouse pages? Is "Grande" just the binder? Thanks!
Grande is the size, as in GRANDE, big - you can then get the 4 per page sleeve for standard US currency to fit on one page of the Grande size. They are just wider and longer (for her pleasure) versions of the Vario sheets, meant to fit in the Grande album - slightly taller album, slightly taller sheets. Lighthouse IS the brand. Here is a link for example...http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250807686371 I would frame any currency sheet - the one I posted I am going to have to get custom framed (grrr, frame will cost twice what the sheet did)...
Put them in a sleeve first. It will be hard to keep a note from getting damaged if you try to slip it into the page directly, and you'll want to be able to move them around anyway, to make room, rearrange, etc. Dave
I use the Mylar holders from Denly's, but as long as you hunt down non-pvc holders you should be good to go. http://denlys.com/inventory/holders.asp
To each their own I suppose, but nearly all of my notes go directly in the page sleeves. If it is in a TPG holder, the holder goes in, but otherwise, directly in the page sleeve. The page sleeves are top flight archival quality. As to damaging the note, I have found individual note holders far more dangerous to the notes than the page sleeves themselves.
Personally, it would make me more comfortable to have the notes in sleeves...that way I can easily rearrange an album as I add more pieces. Will sleeves fit into these slots? My guess is yes because TPG notes do. Can TPG notes be put in these pages and still have a nice esthetic look?
If you plan to store alot of TPG holders I would get a number of the 2-sleeve pages that easily accomodate the usual TPG holders. There are a couple notes I left in sleeves, usually if they were very damaged, simply because I didn't want to risk transplanting them again. I find it easy to add new sleeves and move items as needed, because the page sleeves are so wide, it is very easy to get notes in and out, unlike regular holders which are a tedious chore. You should check it out when you get them. Personally, I think they look better directly in the page sleeves. Keeping them in holders and then sleeves is like wearing two condoms...
Depending on the actual value, i would place the higher valued notes let,s say over $100 in Mylar-D holders, these are the same that PCGS use you can by the stock and seal it Yourself it offers superior protection.
Yes, using the stock you can actually custom fit the sleeve to fit what ever bill your trying To protect (DO NOT USE ANYTHING CONTAINING PVC) for long term protection it can Crack,dis-color and even damage the note inside!
As a recent converter to the Lighthouse albums. I would say if you want to put the bills in holders first you would need the three pocket pages. And I'm not sure about the measurements of Denly's holders but I noticed that some holders are slightly taller. They would stick out a bit. With that been said, the Lighthouse Grande pages are pretty strong already. Placing them in mylar holders makes the pages more stiff. If you're the kind of person that likes to rearrange and don't want to touch the notes with bare hands. I would suggest you to use mylars first. Also check ebay for the binder and pages the prices are much better.
That's correct on the 3C pages. The notes will not fit in holders into the 4C pages. Also, after browsing a bit, the prices on the lighthouse site are actually cheaper than eBay.
Not really, the albums that come with 10 pages are price at about $46 each. I bought 2 albums and a set of 20 pages for $55.
