What is this coin ? It is one of my most favorite coins that i have ever owned, maybe partly because of it's mysterious nature!

Not sure about the bottom one, but the top one looks middle eastern from the designs, which look like arabic.

The bottom one looks a partial "long cross" silver penny of Great Britain, maybe an Edward or Charles, can't tell for sure.

Is that bottom one supposed to look like that, or is it missing some elements?

It wouldn't be medieval with a rim like that, more likely 18th or 19th century.

Its missing half of its outer rim of words.

What I've circled in red is a date possibly, according to Arabic numbers, 1173 or 1172.

1172 is the Arabic date, it doesn't correspond to CE dating. You can google a chart converting them, they are not the same length year.

    Edit: Btw according to http://www.islamicfinder.org/dateConversion.php?mode=hij-ger&day=27&month=1&year=1172&date_result=1

If its the same month as this one, the CE date would be 1758.

    Hello Pueth,

You have gotten solid information from everyone (buncirculated, medoraman, & desert gem). :smile

Do you have a Krauss World Coin Catalog? The different dating systems used around the world are listed & all the numbers are translated for various written languages nicely at the front of the Krause catalog. I keep those pages marked so I can refer to them quickly.

Please let us know more about these coins when you find more info.
