I was give a piggy bank my grandfather recently and it contained nothing but dimes. I went through them And found some old mercury dimes and also 12 1968 dimes. I know that most 1968 dimes without the "s" were from Philadelphia but I thought maybe someone with more knowledge could tell me if any were proofs.
Unfortunately, there are no proofs in the bunch. Proofs have a squared rim, and the business strikes have rounded rims. Those all have rounded rims. The proofs will also have a mirrored finish as the planchets are polished in a drum with steel bearings, and a mild cleaning agent mixed with water. The drum is spun around the the bearings are what polish to the surface of the planchets to a mirror finish.
If you are refering those dimes from 30's and 40's then yes most definatley! They are made of 90 percent silver and each one is worth right around $2
