This never gets old to me. The mistakes, the accidents and the simple over looked errors that slip thru the mint are always interesting to hypotheisize about how the damage or accident may have occured. The die really had an obvious issue on " L I B E R T Y " The B looks like & because of the die shatter/break. Wicked looking issue on this 1988 Lincoln Memorial Cent. These are the sort of pictures that would make excellent examples for coin errors and mishaps.
The letter appears to have been mangled. It's fairly easy to push metal around, especially on Lincoln cents. My vote is "PMD". Chris
Post Mint Damage. The letter B was some how flipped backwards and bonded to the surface of the other B. This is getting more and more interesting.
Well, let's see. I've seen the number "1" pushed so that it resembled a "forward slash" (/), the crossbar extension of a "4" pushed upward, the lower loop of an "8" pushed downward so that it resembled a "9", the lower curve of a "3" pushed straight up-and-down, and in all of these instances, no other devices were damaged. .....and you have been collecting how long without ever seeing similar damage? You know, your smart-arse crack about the "AM" shows your mentality and you don't deserve any further explanation until you've changed your diapers. Chris
CPM9Ball.. My thread here began as a statement on the issue of the pictured defect. The title of this thread was to merely mimick the appearance of the defect. In forums, not everyone will agree with the opinion of others and will be less likely to welcome an opinion when it wasn't requested. I took your initial comment and opinion as a offensive, demeaning and disrepectful action. I felt provoked by your statement. In my response to your comment, my goal was to make it apparrent that I was offended. It would have then been your opportunity to apologize and explain your comment was meant to help rather than it to have favored a negative vibe. I feel certain there is still a chance here for you to redeem yourself by ending this on a positive note.
To be truthful, cwebb, your post, "Easy to push metal....", itself seemed just a tad disrespectful. So, before you demand an apology from Chris...
This was my first post. You mean you found this offensive, demeaning and disrespectful? This was your post that followed. Please note the wisecrack in bold type.
I'm not seeing anything in this post that is even close to being "offensive, demeaning and disrepectful action." That's not what folks here do. Sounds like you feel this is not PMD. Please tell us how this could happen in the minting process.
PM was not necessary. What was said there could have been said here. Yes, my post was lighthearted. Post #2 was not in the least offensive. It was accurate and to the point. Again, cwebb, the only apology due is yours. I'm outa here!
Could also be nothing more than zinc rot. I'ts a slim possibility it could be die breaks and the OP can believe that if he wants, but if he's looking for somebody to agree with this he has to provide a clearer pic. Post a crappy pic you'll get all sorts of opinions, but then don't argue if it's an opinion you don't like.
