Had my eye on this NFLD 1872H 10c for a while and put in a bid about 10 days ago. Checked I-Collector in the small hours and I got it.

Not certain on the grade but looks pretty decent as the hair and fishtail on obverse look sharp. The coin has low mintage of 40,000.

There are two reverses for this coin, one with Roman I in 10 and my example with the Arabic 1.

Nice piece , I've always liked Steve's offerings . I have a Fatimid Glass Jeton consigned to his firm for the upcoming January auction.

Someone on CCC said EF 40 markings.............a bit harsh I thought but I have to take all comments on the chin.

    Looks AU50 to me.

EF-40. There's some significant wear on the highest surfaces of the coin. Having said that, still very nice.

    Saw same coin in VF30

Saw same coin in VF30 and the two coins looks worlds apart to me and it was an ICCS slab. 1872hNfld10cIccsVF30B[1].jpg

I think it is a great coin

    Hello Julian,
I've been thinking about your new Newfoundland 10 cent ever since I first saw this thread. I just wanted to tell you that I think it is a great coin. If I had any money to spend right now I would probably be harassing you with PMs. :D I just got a nice Hawaii 50 cent commemorative so I won't be buying any more coins for a long time. I'll take photos of the Hawaii before it goes to the vault on Monday.

    Thanks Collect89

Thanks Collect89........I guess the marks on the chin have put some off it but I thought it was worth trying to get.
I paid about $270 inc buyer premium. Got Canadian Coin News through the post today Oct 9-22 and looked at
the advert for Colonialacres.com they had loads of coins but hardly any Victorian stuff. Did you see my videos
    on u-tube?

I think that is a touch low, I would have been in the 45 camp. To me, the chin marks didn't bother me much since its a circulated coin. I was thinking the reverse was going to hold you from a 50 down to a 45. I think that has to be the nicest 40 in existence.

Thanks so much......I do like the look of it......but now graded perhaps not the wisest purchase.....paid far more than trend.......but far less on the 1890H MS64.....

Eh, as a 40 that is a superlative example in my eyes, so if you bought it graded a 40 you should have by rights expected to pay a premium versus trends.

Quality coins bring quality money, regardless of what price lists say. Trust me, you will appreciate the quality far longer than you will remember the price. :)

Edit: Also, even if you do believe you overpaid slightly for it, so what? Any serious collector who claims he has never overpaid for a coin I would say is either delusional or a liar. I know I have overpaid for my fair share.

to me its a very very beautiful coin. you cant find nl coins like this in much better shape congrates on your buy. i love it. i collect nl coins. im from nl and i have lots of coins in super shape. i have no graded coins as i dont know what it cost to grade them. what did they charge you to grade this coin and how long did it take from sending it to receiving it back?thanks

ICCS are pretty cheap, cheaper than PCGS and NGC but i always get hit with $150 shipping as i live in the UK. I think they only charge $10 or so per coin but you'd get your coins back much quicker than I obviously. I still have the coin and I really like it too.
