Another Seller Warning

Cazkaboom One for all, all for me.

I had to move this because some people are not opted into the General Discussion forum and cannot read this.
Hey guys, I am ashamed to do this to somebody on this forum, one I have had a few positive transactions with, but I gotta let others know about this.

One month ago, I made a transaction with a kid I have dealt with before, who goes by the screenname Kid_Collector. It was a transaction for a Stone Mountain Half dollar. I purchased it with a check and some coins on top, he sent it and told me that if it appears to be cleaned, I can return it. When I got it, it did appear to be cleaned, so I sent it back to him. I then talked to a friend who said he wanted it, so I contacted the seller again and told him that I found a buyer who is willing to pay X amount of money for it (what the check was written out to be and shipping) and Tyler agrees to the transaction. I told him that he can send the extra coins and the stone mountain half back to me and I would send the half to the person.
This person sent me a silver eagle and a Franklin half in trade and I still have it on hand. It was his trade for the stone mountain half for me purchasing it for him. Well, it has been over a month and he hasn't contacted me one word about the shipment of the coins even though I have sent him countless messages on cointalk and facebook. The coins have not shown up, and he has cashed the check. So I am out my money and coins. Luckily the kid who I was being the "Middle man" for is not out anything because I am sending his coins back to him.
I am pretty ticked off right now because I do know he is completely ignoring me. His last login date on CT was two days ago, and for facebook, he was on yesterday. I know he is a kid and school is a bustle and can delay some things like PO trips, but REALLY? One whole month!

Anywhoo, here is my warning to you for if you are to be dealing with him at all, I can just say don't. And It really pains me to hurt somebody's reputation like this because I have had many swift and positive transactions with him.

    Rant over,

    ~Cannyn

Would be nice if he had one, wouldn't it?

Well, that's why I only perform online transactions via PayPal...

Maybe a better route for you would've been making a purchase of a Stone Mountain half through eBay. This way, the purchase would have been backed by PayPal/eBay "Buyer Protection" and the purchase wouldn't have been "sight-unseen".

Absolutely! That's terrible, I suggest you find out his telephone number and go at him that way. If not, go through his school. I am dead serious time to get vicious, if a kid chooses to do business by ripping somebody off then they deserve what comes next. The fool knew that the coin was cleaned in the first place, he should have just told you up front.

So if you hadn't sent it back, there would have been no problem? Couldn't you tell if it was cleaned by the picture? Was cleaning in question while purchasing the coin? From what I read here, sometimes determining if a coin was cleaned is difficult to do. He should have not ignored you but I would have not sent them back. I would have returned your money and if the other person wants to buy it, they can pay for the coin and shipping. I would have not have you return something then change your mind because someone else wanted it. He shouldn't ignore you though, just return your money minus shipping. If the other person wants the coin, they can pay for the coin and shipping. Maybe they should have said no returns since this story sounds confusing. I would have returned your money though minus shipping. What would have happened while these coins were in transent 3 times something happened? Who would be responsible. Maybe this kid is confused about what is going on and just doesn't want to deal with you?

The OP purchased the coin w/out seeing any pictures. All he had to go by was the seller's word.

And why would he do that? This isn't Ebay, it doesn't cost extra for multiple pictures. Pictures are usually much bigger than the actual coin and you can see things you couldn't see with the naked eye. This story is confusing though. The OP bought a coin without pics, if it looked cleaned they can return it, they returned, they changed their mind because their friend wants it and wants it shipped again. Was the OP going to pay for shipping again? I wouldn't send them back. I would just return the money.

Sad to hear you had a transaction go bad. I hope that he gets with you and gets it straighted out.

I guess the problem is the "kid" isn't doing anything. No return on the money, no coin and no communication, but he did find time to cash the check. Maybe he is waiting to see if it clears? Perhaps he is afraid of a "stop payment? Perhaps he already spent the money? Being a kid, even a dollar is hard to come by once it's spent. However, it is still no reason for the lack of communication.

As a young adult I can assure you I have more than enough time in my day to make right on all my sales. I hate to see people not uphold their end of a sale/trade, only takes one person to ruin it for us all.

Maybe you can contact your bank to see if you can stop the check? Hope things work out for the best.

Its unreasonable when sellers ask for more money for paypal payments.

That's never been an issue for me. I'd assume the seller would've factored that into their asking price.

Oh that check cleared for sure. All the way back to August 21, three days after the (Second) transaction took place.

And Buddy, if you have seen some of his pics, you would know why I buy from him without the pictures. His pictures are usually lack of detail and are out of focus, and when I bought the previous coins, they were much better than his pictures.

Speaking of which, are you satisfied with the dimes I sent you? If so, I would appreciate some feedback.

Since you said you would take the money or the coins, he should contact you but you should be responsible for the shipping costs. This is just my opinion, I wouldn't go through all this especially how you bought the coin using a check in the mail through a post on a discussion board which seems it can be kind of iffy to begin with.

Why is it unreasonable...paypal raises their costs. I have never taken payment using paypal...but I know they have fees. If I am selling something for $100 and you want to pay me using paypal (which I believe takes 9%)...is it really unreasonable for me to raise the price to cover that cost? I think that's perfectly reasonable.
