I was going through a box of coins yesterday and found these. Are they worth anything but melt value?
You can look at the specifications of your coins here: http://www.ngccoin.com/poplookup/Wo...tegory=5547&worldcoinid=19347&FromSearch=true In VF 20 your 1831 would be worth $1750 the 1836 would be worth $200 in VF20 The only problem with these coins would be the holes drilled in the top of them. This means that these coins were once part of a necklace or other form of jewelry. Most coin grading companies would not grade these coins as they would be deamed as "Damaged". This leaves these coins with little to no premium for most people. Some collecotrs might pay more to buy these as a filler for their mexican coin collection. As for scraping them I hope you do not as these coins are very old and one of the first 8 Reales coins minted by the Mexican goverment. If you would like to sell these coins as scrap each coin is worth $27.38 each for a grand total of $54.76

Your prices are incorrect because you have not taken into account the mintmarks of the pieces. The 1831Z is worth scrap in that condition. The 1836G piece is extremely rare, and prices are not given in Krause. Your specimen is not necessarily genuine, but if it is it might be worth a few hundred dollars with the damage.
