Picked up this 1963 $5 Legal Tender Star for $1.50 over face. It has some writing on it, and will probably grade a 15/Net. But not bad for the price. Not bad at all.
Steve, do you mind telling me what the experimental notes are? I would love to learn a bit more about them.
Today's note is one I got late last week, an affordable $20 star, and I even like the serial number...
In its time, the BEP has run more than a few tests on combinations of cotton and linen to determine what kind of paper would last longer in circulation. In 1942, the R and S 1935A notes were created to determine what kind of paper would last longer in circulation. So they created two runs of notes: - The R run, which represented notes made of the regular paper that was used at the time - The S run, which was for notes made of different paper Results were inconclusive and no change was made. EDIT: Sorry Steve, beat ya to it.
Here's my latest Greek arrival, a somewhat less common notes, the 50k from 1950. It's got a decent overall design, definitely better than the 1940's releases but not up to the mid 50's brilliant notes. Presented with a nice Greek vase just cause...
My newest addition to my 1929 National collection. Type 2 from Baltimore. I don't know if it would be considered a true error note/miss cut. You can see the border of another note on the top of this one.
Possibly an error. It is a very thin margin and (in the pics) not too noticeable, but you could get a slight premium for the mis-cut.
I haven't been acquiring many notes lately, pickings have been slim, but I saw this the other night and hoped it might slip under the radar, and it did. With so many 1923 SCs on eBay, it's easy for one to slip through if it isn't described well, and so I scored this Fr239 Woods-Tate for a bargain... don't see too many on theBay, and I just barely got it, glad I did, though I am still looking for one in VF, this will do for now... As to that Five, keep in mind the banks usually cut those notes by hand, so "error" really means something a bit different than on BEP cut notes. "Error" can really just mean "lazy".
The price (a lot) had me telling myself I was totally crazy to spend that much. That's all I'll admit to.
As long as you like it, thats all that matters. We all spend crazy amounts of money on things anyway.
Steve, what did you pay for the $2 J* if you don't mind me asking. I have 3 I* that I think would grade about the same. (I posted them awhile back)
Well here's a note that I got a few weeks ago but for some reason did NOT post here, or anywhere. Got it for my Dad for Christmas because he was born here (Alton, Illinois), and as it turns out, it's the only recorded 1902 for this bank, whereas they have many recorded 1865's and 1880's - weird huh? Probably another out there, but for now, I gots the only one... pen signed too, no stamping machine here...
Great news! I just got a really nice super limey Chicago 1928C, the hard to find release... Bad news! I already got a really nice super limey Chicago 1928C, the hard to find release... Man my old timer's is setting in during my early 40's. Sigh...here it is anyways. Guess it will be a catch and release back into the wild, someone will want it, these don't exactly grow on trees.
Huh, that's weird. I grew my entire collection on trees. You're telling me that there are other places besides trees to get collectible notes?:hail:
