What's it Worth? THE ONE POSTED IS THE ACTUAL COIN.[h=3]General Quick Facts:[/h][h=3]Years Minted: 1903-1912 Composition: 75% Silver (90% Silver 1903-1906) Diameter: 36 mm Weight: 20 grams (26.956 grams 1903-1906) Total Mintage: 32,830,000 Mints: Philadelphia, San Francisco[/h][h=3]This is a U.S. Territorial Philippine One Peso Silver coin dated 1904s. I read that there are a few special dates and mint marks that make these coin series extra valuable and 1904s is considered as one of the Special Dates. Can anyone confirm this?[/h][h=3]Design[/h]The obverse was designed by Melecio Figueroa and features a young Filipina in a flowing dress standing while striking an anvil with a hammer held in her right hand, her left arm is half raised and she holds an olive branch in her hand. In the background is the Mayon volcano with a billowing smoke coming from the crater. On the upper periphery of the coin is the denomination “ONE PESO” and on the lower periphery is the word “FILIPINAS”.The reverse design features an eagle perched atop a shield. On the outer periphery are the words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and the year of issue. To the left of the year is the mint mark “S” for San Francisco.[h=3]Varieties[/h]Variety 1: 1903-1906 – Silver Weight 0.780 ounces CONDITION:Light to moderate wear; very clear details.
The 1904-S is actually one of the most common large type pesos, right behind the 1903-S. Your coin looks to be a sea salvaged coin that has ben heavily cleaned and scrubbed in an attempt to remove the heavy black toning and corrosion that is the hallmark of sea salvaged pesos. Unfortunately you have a melt value coin, I hope you did not pay too much for it.
maybe about $ 17.00... If that is 1906S One Peso...Much expensive in any peso during that period. Sayang Read more: http://www.cointalk.com/t213762/#ixzz26jL1mN1i
Thanks Redwin...Where did you get "sayang" . By the way, what's the link all about? Anyway...$ 17.00!! Wow...too bad.How about these guys..Are they good enough? What do you think are they worth? I actually still have 1905, 1909,1910 and 1911 Ss unfortunately no 1906S. 1908 S 1912 S
Again, these look to be sea salvaged coins. The 1908-S is very common for this series but the 1912-S is a semi key along with the 1911-S. In that condition, you could be looking at anything from $40 to $100+ depending on how it looks in hand, but I would suspect it is on the lower side of that range. Even though the 11-S and 12-S are semi keys, they are readily available in lower grades. They do not appreciate much until they hit the problem free AU range.
Thanks a lot again jhinton! That was fast :thumb:. I'm learning a lot from you man and from the other forumers here....much appreciated. Thanks. By the way, do you agree that my much criticized 1904s above is only worth $ 17.00? I'm not sure as redwin117 winked at me... Thanks again.
I do agree that it is a lower valued coin in that condition. I would put the value around the $25 range.
just want to share my coin 1907 One Peso United States-Filipinas Coin.. I beleive its a silver coin..
Not a chance, appears to have been harshly cleaned. You'd be better off starting your own thread featuring your coin though instead of bumping an old one.
