i saw this on ebay. the bid is $ so far 430.00. how did this get out of the mint?? i am sure it was not in a roll. conspiracy theory time....the mint saves all the errors it collects and sells them to make their boats and houses just a little big bigger?? like those...die caps? how do you get those????sorry the pic is so small. it would not let me copy it. it's a north carolina quarter

That's how it had to get out. Quarters are supposed to weigh 5.67 grams. Seller says his weighs 4.6 grams. Probably struck on a piece of scrap quarter stock. It also had to be struck out of the collar.
What has always fascinated me is the demand and high prices that state quarter errors fetch in general...
The seller that is selling this coin on Ebay is a really good seller , I have bought some awesome coins from the seller and was treated good. usually this seller sells some awesome error coins by the hundreds. this person probably works in the place where they empty the big coin bins and count the coins before bagging them. this way the ones that don't make it thru the counting machine can easily be grabbed out before bagging them. this is probably why so few really awesome errors can be found in a bag of coins. I would love to have that job.
Amazed we made it 6 posts without somebody pointing that out. You'd think if they got it out of a bag they would know what state it is....... little suspicious to me.
This does not imply that the seller should be excused for the mistake, but he may not have been the one to have originally found it.
ok. ty for that. i see now. but $35.00 for $25.00 worth of quarters? what are the benefits other than possibly on a one in a million shot you find something good?
I wouldn't call a one in a million shot a benefit. I buy the NP quarters in rolls because I want the best uncirculated coins I can get for the albums I'm putting together for my grandchildren. I am doing the PDSS collection.
