Mind you, we just read that interview from the Citizens Advisory Council on coin design... I'm not sure if the coin should be executed or the people who voted for it... http://news.coinupdate.com/house-passes-lions-clubs-international-commemorative-coin-bill-1583/
What a bunch of crud. I suppose I could drill a hole in it and use it as a washer. Just follow the money and you will see the reason they are putting that crap out. Good stuff Brooklyn. :dead-horse:
The Lions club does alot of good in the small communities, I actually think this one would be worth while.
As with all the other commemoratives more than 95% of them will be purchased by coin collectors, very few will be sold to Lions club members or supporters and the vast majority of them will probably never know that they existed. This assumes that it actually passes and becomes law. Since the Senate has already passed their wn version of the bill, the chances of this actually becoming law is very good.
It's just 1 person's opinion, but the more the commemorative program becomes primarily a fundraising campaign and less a commemorative campaign, the more uninterested I become. Many of the early commemoratives were great and some of the modern coins were interesting also. The current trend is not at all worth collecting to me.
1936 all over again Treehugger? That year more than anything else is what killed the traditional commemorative program. I don't see it AS bad now, at least they have a yearly limit. The collector fatique I could see is more from the proliferation of other mint offerings.
That's a pretty ignorant comment. I would think someone who read as much as you would know better......or do you just post a lot? You are assuming Lions Club members are not coin collectors. You also negate the loyalty of Lions Club members and the pride of the rural community. FWIW, I am not a Lions Club Member, but I am originally from a rural community and would be willing to bet there are more coin collectors in rural communities than the 10 largest cities per capita.
My grandfather was in the Lions Club for many years. He was also a numismatist. He would have loved it! If that coin comes out, I think I'll buy one in his memory. So there! : p
Good for them! As a member of a small town (~1000 people) we are in full support of our local Lions club and think this is a great idea!
Sort of but the Obverse will have the Overtine kids and the reverse will have a milk pale and Cow Teets... and the Motto will say "Made In America - Real Milk!"
They will sell about 8,000 of them. One for each Lion Club Member. Now when the Knights of Columbus comes out next year...watch out! That will be a huge seller amoung our Italina Numasissts.
Someone has to pack the leveys when the spring floods come. Ever here the story of Mikey, Billie and Whitey?
