This Maybe a Proof before it was circulated . I have great old friend in Liverpool UK that is look for more info there was about 600-1000 made in 1874
Hmm, not quite. The piece commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Prussian king's An mein Volk proclamation in 1813. That was right after the beginning of the French-Prussian war. That war against Napoleon's France ended in 1815 ... Christian
That's a coin of the The Australian Koala Platinum Bullion Coin Series from 1988-2000, the series was eventually discontinued with sales numbers having broken down significantly (number of sales for the quarter ounce in 1988 of 62,666 compared to 1,404 in 1999). The series was later restarted in silver as one/half ounces. It's a lovely little coin with a great design like most Perth Mint coins, it can be argued if it's collect worthy in a numismatic sense or not, for me it is. Also the coin in relation to my username: Great taste!:thumb:
What is this piece of art? Is it silver? I must know! Oh gosh, I am moving closer to the dark side every day on this site
90% silver, crown sized. I have a few threads on it. 500k minted in business strike silver which this is an example of. 11k in bronze. 250 minted strike in silver proof of which I have 2 in pr 66 DCAM ill post one below, 350 in gold proof. A very unnoticed piece IMO
Christian, I always enjoy your wealth of knowledge. BUT, I think this coin can be reasonably called the "Defeat of Napoleon" commemorative, just not by Prussia. The whole reason for Frederich Wilhelm III declaring war against France on March 17, 1813 was because of the decisive victory Russia forces had over Napoleon. So in reality, it is celebrating the defeat of Napoleon by Russia, and prompting the entrance of Prussia into the war against France. In his address in Breslau on March 17, 1813 he paid great compliments to the Russian forces in their ability to defeat Napoleon. -Brandon
The MS strikes come up on ebay somewhat frequently. There are a couple of them up now in the 40-50$ range. But these are not always problem free. If you want a seller that usually gets nice examples who is actually in uruguay, look for a guy named maredu00 . The proofs..good luck. Ive seen 4 come up for sale in 5 years and I bought 2 of them. Actually only 1 came up for sale per se, the 2 I bought I sniffed out with some leg work and lots of luck. I passed on the one that came up on ebay because it wasnt DCAM and I also think it might have been a problem proof but I dont know for sure. The 4th one was harshly polished and held by the ebay seller I referenced above who was asking for 200$ despite it being polished. I had one of mine up for sale but have changed my mind on it for now and will be keeping it. Mine is a DCAM top pop so I was asking strong money for it, well above the ridiculous krause listing of 200$ as Brg5658 so nicely pointed out in my NGC Moneyplace thread.
You were the very next post as I was typing out my reply. Your name front and center. I couldnt help but be reminded. I didnt say anything not nice though, no grudge.
It's difficult to tell, the characteristics of a proof are lost pretty fast with circulation. Is there some rest of sharpness still present in the legend? More small circulated silver coins: 1) Norway, 10 Öre Oscar II 2) Austria, 10 Kreuzer Franz Josef I Wow! Truly unnoticed coins and undeserved they are beautiful. Are you specialized on South American coinage?
No I dont think i'd be considered specialized in anything. I love Peace dollars and crown sized silver and I collect Uruguayan coins because that is where my family is from. Here is another nice Uruguayan coin while they are getting some attention
