About a month ago I started searching on ebay for cheap Dinolite's. Unfortunately, they just don't exsist. Last year at the Pittsburgh ANA I bought a cheap knock off for about $140. It never worked with my computer and the company's tech people here in the US and Germany couldn't figure it out either so I sold it. Well, getting back to my ebay search, I came across these really cheap digital microscopes - from China. They ranged in price from $20-40, and shipping was usually proportionate. The scope I chose had 20-800X magnification with 8 LED lights. Shipping for me was $20, so $40 total. It was worth the trial. So I got it yesterday and just took my first two pics of some variety coins I have. The first is a Kennedy 1974D DDO and the second is a proof 1951 Franklin half DDR. I didn't do anything special with lighting, but plan on setting something up in the future. I just wanted to let you know that there are really cheap options out there that take great pics.
I decided today that I needed a digital magnifier or usb microscope and then found out it was 160 bucks.. suddenly it hit me..I have a canon 7d -- I can shoot my coins in live mode and look at them on the computer or the tv.. I have an over heat sensor.. I'm not sure how long I'm willing to use my camera for this.. but, it may help out temporarily until I can foot the bill for a better option. Another thought would be to use another less expensive digital video camera..I'll see viewing coins the way you are doing and on the cheap is fuuuuunnn
Im like a little kid at Xmas. Ripping open all my coins that I have stashed away looking for any varieties that may have been hiding away all these years. Here is one not so small variety that has been well documented. Enjoy.

I am surprised it did not fry when you put the batteries in it. Life expectancy about a month or so. Anything from red china with a wire on it, is junk.
Yes it is. Yes I do Ruben (Mrbrklyn) seems to have explained it very well what it is. The link to the scope is http://www.ebay.com/itm/2MP-800X-USB-Digital-Microscope-Endoscope-8-LED-Magnifier-Camera-PC-Computer-AAL-/150896306939?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item23221eeafb. THis isn't the guy I bought mine from, but it is the same scope. Just type in digital microscope into the ebay search and you will get thousands of choices. You should not pay more than $40 for this. Mine was $20 with $20 shipping. Some are $10 with $30 shipping. Some are $1 with $40 shipping. Get my point. Don't pay more than $40. So far so good with the scope. I am having a blast with it. I have been conversing with the guy who just sold his non prototype cheerios reverse on ebay. I ended up buying another coin off of him. THere were a few with the nonprototype reverse, but how many is not known.
