Hello all yoday i just finished searching another $25 box of lincoln cents and i came upon this penny in the first few rolls. It first caught my eye since it was nice and lustorous then i caught the mint mark and reminded me of an old proof set i had and im just wondering is this a proof? I compared with other proofs of this year and they look similar but i like to confirm most things i get here with all you nice folk
I would say yes. The rims look square and those stairs don't show like that in a business strike. But, i could be wrong and I am not an expert.
I see well i am inclined to agree wiht you from what i have seen so i guess it is going in the stat book as a proof! Thank you.
I found a '68S in my box of pennies along with my '98 Wide AM. Will have to post pics for verification.
I don't think my '68 is proof but I'll leave that decision up to the experts here on CT if the pics are good enough for you (sorry if they aren't).
1968 S Mintage 258,270,001 Lowest minted non-proof memorial coin That is not proof. Either that or it was dropped in battery acid.
I see i wasnt sure if the coins of this period had a mirror like finish because the other ones i checked were pretty much like this. But I guess i can see now the point of it not being a proof but a bu. So if its bu though is it still a nice find? it fooled me for a lil while into thinking its proof.
Yeah, even if it was an impaired proof, you'd still be able to see the mirrored finish on it. It wouldn't have had that much handling and still retain that much detail. From the pics it looks to be an MS grade, and I'd probably put it in my Dansco if I didn't have that slot filled yet. So yes, I'd say worth hanging on to; after all, it only cost one cent.
I still don't see and business strike with a full staircase like that one. Only a proff strike. Ruben
