1910 Liberty Nickel Proof. PCGS PR66 (CAC Green Sticker). I bought this stunner on Thursday for $890 -- a toning premium of just $15 over the PCGS price guide. You could have knocked me over with a feather! Colorfully Toned Liberty Nickels are EXTREMELY RARE. I have only seen a few in my life and this is one of the most colorful examples I've ever seen. Note that this photo was taken for PCGS CoinFacts by Phil Arnold (of PCGS TrueView fame). This photo does show up on the PCGS Cert Verification page but doesn't have a TrueView database entry -- though the differences between a CoinFacts photo and a TrueView photo are negligible. I put a CoinFacts notation on the image to differentiate this from an official TrueView.
BEAUTIFUL FIND! wingedliberty i wish i had the money to own any coin of that rareity and tone :thumb:
Beautiful coins! Also, a premium illustration of the major dividing line of the strike of the Lincoln portrait, the original Brenner model and the post-1968 model.
So I am just asking here, NGC graded it as a non-SMS coin, and PCGS did? It does look like a SMS strike to me. Beautiful coin either way.
A few toners and a pair of woodys I Picked up this 1885 O Morgan NGC 64 Star. A nice 1917 and 1928 Woody. A nicely toned 1939 Lincoln and a 1949 Jefferson that looked interesting.
This early half is an O.102a. It has nice blue, green and magenta album toning. The reeding hit above eagle is kind of cool, I think. Lance.
Thanks for the clarification Bob. Technically, A SMS is not a business strike, sure they took business strike dies, but they heavily polished them and double-struck the coins. That's why they get the SP designation.
This one as well as most SMS Lincolns has an almost mirror like PL surface. Nothing like a business strike. Another shot that shows the surface a little better, but the gloss and shine is far deeper than what I could capture.
Ikeigwin; I definately like the coloration of the bust half. The depth of the blue green color is not something I see that often.
Why is this gold coin so dark? Is it the lighting or has it actually tarnished that much? She's pretty now matter what. I wouldn't mind adding it to my collection in the least!
This looks like and probably is a proof. It is gorgeous! Congratulations on your new acquisition to your collection!
Lots of nice coins being posted and I especially love those Proof V Nickels !! I spotted this while checking Heritage auctions "Live" yesterday - and this popped up which I had not even looked at before - but it has three things going for it: its a PCGS, its a FH , its an AU 58+ and its CAC'd... okay, four things - but I do not have a FH 58+CAC in my collection, I've decided to use this coin as part of my Type set... looks pretty nice so far. Sorry if the images are too large... I seriously don't know why they are ....
