could this 1918 merc be an error

    the g in god is weak compared to the rest of the letters

    the 9 looks broken and bigger compared to the other number ( i compared it to my 1917 and newer mercs the 9 dosent look the same)

    also the w on the front above the date looks like a blob

    and the stare next to the word one looks like it has a curved point

    iv never noticed that the mercury dimes pretty much says wet rust on them (because ive never look at one threw a camera i cant see we trust with my eyes)

    I don't think it is an error given the condition. As for IGWT, it's just that the coin is so small that there was little room for adequate spacing, and there is actually a small "dot" separating the words.

    It might have been a die chip which was eventually worn down. Or it could have been smooshed during it's lifetime and then worn down through the years.

    If you look at enough old Merc's, you'll find wear patterns like this all the time.

    The whole coin has been smooshed several times me thinks in it's lifetime given the condition it's in.. ;)
