  7. It may have been a pocket piece that was carried many many years.
My grandfather had one that he had carried so long that it had worn one side of the coin so badly you coild not see any of the details on it.
It too looked clean but had seen the inside of his pocket everyday of his life from age 24 to age 89.
The old generation carried these for luck.
They also or many of them carried what is called a buckeye that over time was shiney from being carried everyday.
A buckeye is a type of nut oddly shaped but many thought would bring them luck.
These were found on most any farm grown on a tree called a buckeye tree.

Just my opinion as i have no idea about how your coin got that way.

I think that it is only worth melt as well so it doesn't matter how it got ugly like that. It is a common date coin with condition issues worth melt.

SLQ's are a beautiful coin in high grade... but they sure turn ugly when worn and harshly cleaned.

Or caught in a lawn mower like that one, which is unique for SLQs. Other coins do much better. I can see where it was bent back into place. I'm sorry, I make it a policy not to make fun of anyone elses coin. But in this case, if you tossed that coin back into circulation, the next day they would toss it back at you.

I would send it back to the mint to see if they can authenticate it. Maybe they'll do you a favor and seize it.

One other solution is to clandestinely take it to Bulgaria and bury it in the ground. Then dig it up a week later and try to take it out of Bulgaria on the front seat of your car. But don't get yourself arrested over it.

Finally, you can post it in the errors section and claim its a mint error. Maybe someone will offer to explain its condition and pay you a premium for it.

Ah - the heck with it. Take out your carving knife and turn it into a love token. Do you have a girlfriend ??

I can definitely picture Ruben on stage delivering those lines, doing that Rodney Dangerfield thing of straightening his tie between jokes.

Sometimes you can get some good coins out of junk bins. I got my avatar out of a junk bin. Many times though, if it is in junk then it is junk. It doesn't make a difference if it is harshly cleaned if it is junk. It has no numismatic value but has intrinsic value. Many coins have intrinsic value higher than their numismatic value even though they may be nicer coins. They have the same value of your coin. I think that these coins below I bought on Ebay are also junk and have been treating them like it although they are a little better than the one you presented:
