1992 d error nickel?

    Hello all i searched a $100 box of nickels today and just wonder whats up with this nickel? Its not sintered thats for sure.

    Well its certainly not dirt im starting to wonder though if its just a toned coin?

    I think you have got it right. coins will tone to about any color , it all depends on what they have been exposed to.

    Environmental damage. Could be a metal detecting find.

    I never said it was "Dirt"

    I said it looked dirty.....which means a million different things. And I agree with ikandiggit, looks like a metal detecting find. You really think that's toning? I really don't think so.....
    It's a coffee color with darker brown spots over it. Show me a pic of a nickel that has toned like that, unless you mean it toned 6 inches underground.

    A coffee color isn't toning?
    Toning can come in all colors, It's not limited to the rainbow.

    Rainbow colors yes, literally, but someone PLEASE post a 1992 Nickel that has toned this much already.

    Either painted or toned, I have a 1999 and 98 that are heavily toned

    I have some proof nickels with that color of tone in proof sets.

    Can I see a pic if you can post one please? I've just never seen a heavily toned coin that's 10 years old.

    AHAHA Wow! What a nasty coin IMO. They had some on google images that literally looked copper. Toning is weird.:confused:

    The reason for that is because the ASE contains silver, the nickels don't, except the War Nickels.

    Very good point, I can't believe I didn't think of that. So I guess I would still like to see a picture of a nice Brown toned 1990-present Nickel.

    I have this1992 D nickel and it is brown too. Trust me it's brown. I haven't mastered the photo stuff yet. It says not enough memory??? Any help with posting pics?
