Hello all I have currently $132 dollars that i plan to take to the bank in exchange for coins. What coins? I am not sure (imns). At first i was thinking of getting $100 in nickels and a $25 box of lincoln cents. But the thing is i hate searching nickels the last time i searched them maybe thats because i got too little or i dont know but please tell me what would you do???
Walk in and ask if they have a lot of coins they don't want and take it from there. If they have a lot of any one particular denomination they don't want they will offer those to you first. I got talking to a bank teller yesterday and she had $700 in CWR dimes. She said she was going to ship most of them out "to the mint" because she had so many. She was able to sell $450 worth to me. Now, unfortunately, you have a relatively small budget to work with so I would focus on buying pennies, nickels and dimes. This method works well with some tellers and not so much with others. Some tellers want you to clearly tell them what denomination and amount you are looking for, others don't require such specificity.
I see Nos.. Sounds like and idea ive never thought of, it adds a bit of surprise and well too Fadetoblack if your saying happens to mix with Nos's idea than hrm well we shall see unfortunately i dont have much money like Nos said to get many dimes or halves. But maybe if i get dimes or whatever lets just hope im lucky
I have Just gotten back from the bank and asked if they have excess. The bank teller said no. Then i asked for customer wrapped rolls. But they say they ship those off to somewhere and don't use them. So i ended up getting $100 nickels and $25 lincoln cents. Wish me luck!
Some banks are psychotic about accuracy and knowing what exactly is inside of customer wrapped rolls. Two weeks ago I went to redeem twenty rolls of nickels in machine wrapped plastic at one of my local banks and the teller was persistent in writing my account number in sharpie on every roll! I made it known how ridiculous it was for her to do such a thing. She said if they are over or under they will credit your account accordingly. I told her that I hand counted every roll for accuracy. She said I believe you but I still have to write your account number on them. Because I have an account at this bank I kept my cool as much as possible. Last week I brought in a dime box to a Wells Fargo that had 50 paper CWRs inside of it. I wanted to do a simple cash exchange but the teller told me they would have to bag all of my coins and ship them off to some cash vault in Los Angeles to be counted. The teller still gave me the cash but wrote down my name and account number on some big plastic bag. He said I brought in "a lot" and it was "procedure" to ship them off to be verified. I found this experience to be ridiculous because I have done exchanges at many other Wells Fargos and had never heard of this before. He said it would take 3-4 weeks to process the bag so if 30 cents is added or removed from my account I will know what that is from. By and large though I don't have a problem buying or redeeming customer wrapped rolls and the two above situations are the exception and not the rule.
I guess it sounds like your bank doesnt like your business unfortunately. and well i asked for the customer wrapped rolls at BofA and that was the only place i asked maybe the others are different though
