I'd like to see them re-issue the Morgan silver dollar at the Carson City mint and get rid of the ASE.
Since we already have 1oz ASE, I'd like to see a 1/2oz coin with the exact design used on the Walking Liberty Half Dollar. :thumb: Another coin I'd like to see is an ASE in high relief.
I'll go for replacing the ASE design, fine with me. But lets go back in time even further. Why not a seated, bust or flowing hair?
Idk about reissuing an old coin like the Morgan, I feel it'd detract from the originals mystic of sorts. However an new libert bust in the soul of the Morgan or older bust halfs would be kind of cool.
ASEs, gold eagles, the 01 Buffalo, certain spouse coins using the seated design... all need to go IMO. I would much rather see a new design that not only equals the class and beauty of the old, but possibly surpass it.
If there is any possibility of a design change in the future, I would like to see the Gobrecht dollar design reissued.
I'd like to see them come up with something original for a change and not another re-issue or a take on an older issue. They have artists on the payroll so let them be artistic for a change. Guy
Yeah, they have artists on the payroll, but none could ever attain the caliber of Goldbrecht, St Gaudens, Morgan, etc.
IDK. I think Mercante has come up with some nice stuff. I like onecenter's idea about a Gobrecht dollar coin......[muses to self] wonder if they still have the original dies so they could do a restrike......doubtful. I like the idea of fractional silver and high relief silver. That shouldn't be too difficult for them (mint) to accomplish if they've a mind to do it.
Maybe, but there is no reason the Mint cannot take the same path they did with Saint-Gaudens. Think outside the box for a change instead of looking inside of it.
I liked the state quarters, well some of them, and the America the Beautiful quarters are nicely done, but I'm burned out on places on coins. Why not commemorate things that have nothing to do with generating government revenue and do it on something larger than a quarter, and for heavens sake, don't charge a king's ransom for it? I look at coins from other country's who celebrate art and ingenuity and milestones that actually mean something. Something like that, without an agenda, would be a refreshing change. The $20 for $20 coin from Canada would make a great model for this. Of course the mint selling something worth $20 for a mere $20 is unfathomable, so wishful thinking is as far as this will go. Guy
I do not want them to use rehash designs, like the Saint, Walker, etc anymore. Give them a break and come up with new original and lovely designs. The loss of originality is a real problem with our current coinage. Now we have very low relief spaghetti haired Lincolns and Jeffersons that Victor D. Brenner and Felix Schlag would be ashamed of. When they borrowed the Saint design they actually thinned Ms. Liberty down a bit, made her more of a healthless waif than the robust siren she was in the early 20th century. When you do something like that you accomplish little more than dumbing down what WAS a good and attractive design.
Put liberty on a coin. Half dollar sounds good. have her standing, waving an american flag. Put an eagle on the reverse... about to takeoff. Now, find a way to put some silver on/in it. Fill it with zinc and a thin outer coating of silver? Or slowly put silver back into coins, therfore making the dollar go up in value, allowing more silver to be put in coins? Or, all this could be crazy ramling
I’d like to see the US Mint issue LESS! We’ve been flooded with new issues and options! Let’s go back to the 1960’s, sell us only a mint and proof set, and give all these “rarities” we’ve purchased a chance to appreciate. Ok, ok, that will never happen, so how about a 90% silver version of new commemorative half dollars. Sure would be nice to see that upcoming Pan-Pac Half in 90%.
