We have found MANY oddities over the last 100 rolls of pennies or so and we need some advice about what (if anything) they might be worth, or at the least, worth keeping. I'm not sure why my pics are always so small. If there's any way to click on these, take a look at the 1981 off center to the left and the 1998 to its left. These coins are almost a gold color. I know they do not contain gold, but is that something worth keeping, or is that a bad color? There are maybe 5-6 coins we've found this way. The next pic is the same, just less focused. We found this thing in a roll of pennies! Preston says (after googling the words on it) that it is a coin from France. It's dated 1944... still haven't found out if it's any % of silver. One can dream And lastly, his very coveted 40% Kennedy halves. He wanted me to share these with you. Thanks for looking
The france coin is actually switzerland, and pretty sure it ain't silver. But anyways its a nice find along with the 40%ers
Design pattern seems to indicate 5 rappen, but I am not sure w/o seeing the back. I personally like the toned pennies, but it is entirely up to the two of you. Congrats on the 40%ers!
Thanks for the info! I did just google the words myself. I do think it matches the description of the rappen. It has a 10 on the back. We still have small goals at this time lol 40%ers were a goal completed for us. We have found quite a few toned pennies. I don't know enough about toning yet to know what's good and what's not. I think I'll put the gold colored ones on cards for Preston. They are unique... at least to him.
Swiss, 10 rappen. I love those Swiss coins, they're beautiful in high grade silver. BTW, I'm mailing Preston's package out tomorrow.
Nice find on the halves - worth now 900% of face value! The Swiss coins do turn up in rolls occasionally, I have found the 1/2 francs in dime rolls, just yesterday I found a 1981 20 rappen in a nickel roll. Nice thing is that the franc is worth more than a dollar. The great thing about the halves is that people like me can search hundreds of rolls in dozens of banks and turn up nothing - then you go and find a couple of them just like that.
Thanks fadetoblack! We will be on the lookout for it! The funny thing is we aren't searching rolls of halves... He just walks up to the counter and asks if the teller has anything "special on her tray or drawer that he could buy". He's almost ten and he's short and tiny so he looks about 7. Couple that with what's leftover from his speech delay as a toddler AND just getting his spacers and four teeth removed in preparation for braces and he sounds very sweet lol
We found both of these at the same small bank where they roll their own coin. The tellers there ate him up so I think we are goof to start an account there and bribe her with boxes of candy like you suggested
