It appears to be a doubled die with a nice clip with a few die gouges and struck through debris (a lot of debris!)

I would suggest sending it PCGS (or SGS if you want to go for a MS70 rating) asap in a sase for certification.

This is one error coin that will stir up some controversy. Nice find!!!

er.... you may want to hold off sending it in. You might want to get other opinions. I might be wrong because I'm not an expert.:nerd:

it is definetely a mint error. Look at the bite that was taken out of it from the broken die. How many things can have that kind of force outside the mint? The Chicxulub Impact comet?

I'm gonna say no to the Chicxulub Impact comet because the edge of the clip is too smooth and I think the arc is not quite right.

    However, Wexler might disagree.

Maybe if they fed mint employees a little better, errors like this one wouldn't happen.

It is definitely not a Mint Error!

Someone hammered it into one of the cherry trees surrounding the tidal basin in Washington, DC (formerly known as Hains Point) and when the beavers escaped from the National Zoo back in the 90's, one of them gnawed through it while cutting down a tree which accounts for the different arc that you would normally see in a clip when the planchets are cut out of the sheet. I'd suggest you contact the National Zoo and ask if they have any reports of BDW from the 90's.

Whatever the error is, I'd personally take nothing less than 9 million for it.

This one cent error sends at least one other coin seen here to the junk bin.

Sarcastic? Me? Never! Two beavers really did escape from the National Zoo and made their way to East Potomac Park where they proceeded to feast on numerous (ornamental) cherry trees that were gifts from Japan. I may have had the decade wrong. It could have been about 8-10 years ago.

And my all time favorite. You really have to go to the San Francisco zoo to apreciate this story fully.

Followed by the similar Brooklyn Story

This one is worthy of a Commemorative Coin

The story was followed up by this speech by the Priest at the funeral, "Juan Perez had been a wild kid, he pronounced, and very likely the bears saved his soul from Satan". That must have been comforting to the grieving mother.

Such were the good ole days in Brooklyn..
