so what do you think caused this? some kind of tool?

    and how did something with enough force to do that to a die not fall into the device and scrape those?

    I assume you are talking about the parallel lines in the U and N? I see them, but no clue what could have caused them.

    That could be a die gouge, but it looks like it was caused by a strike-through of some type.

    thats what i was thinking. something between a planchet and the die caused it. but it would have had to happen twice. look where the arrow in the pic above is pointing. see where it isnt gouged? how does that happen? and it is really defined, even in depth and size, and strong. very well rounded.
