only the 76 is affected and i see no MD anywhere else. look at the scratches on the lower reverse. heart breaking. IMG_3148[1].jpg IMG_3149[1].jpg IMG_3175[1].jpg [IMG]

i have a hard time telling between RPD and MD. they both look flat to my untrained eyes. not like a doubled die.

Looks more like MD to me.

The RPD you would see where the new date was punched over the old one, like on the 80/79 Morgan dollars.

This is an RPD, and you can see the first date in the top loops of both the 8's, where the arrows are pointing.

looks like an RPD to me.

the only thing bugging me is the gap in the doubling on the top of the 6. there is another 1876 cc RPD in the cherrypickers guide that has the same look to it only at the bottom of the date instead of the top. page 142 in the 5th edition.

Very good point, now I see that as well.

    Agreed.

    Riff,

Keep in mind that not all varieties are listed in cherrypickers. The book is basically a popularity contest and not an extensive reference. For LS quarters, the Briggs book is great, but its over 20 years old now and is not a complete listing of all known varieties.
