As some of you may have read in the Introductions section, and for those who have not, I was sharing my newly received coin collection with everyone gathering insight and getting to know everyone. These coin books were part of that collection, most of them are complete, only a few are not. Most of the coins were on these books since the 80's. Most of the coins look circulated to me. What should I do with them? Is it best to keep them in these books? Is there a value on a completed book? any help would be appreciated... CPB614
There is no added value to have a complete set. In fact it would sell for less than if the coins were sold individually. But it would take much more time to sell off that way. As far as their worth, much more information would be needed to come up with a number. You would need to know each coins condition and which coins were missing out of each album. As far as what to do with them, leave them in the albums and keep them in a relatively dry and cool place for the best preservation.
That is actually what I thought..It will take some time...they have been in cool dry storage for many years... I know some people may need coins to complete their own album, or just want to have a complete album.... thank you for your response... CPB614
Since I am a collector of older proofs, I buy BU modern sets completed to keep the family collection up to date. For others, I'm sure they would rather assemble the albums as they find the coins over time. Some people only want graded and slabbed coins (even for modern coins, makes no sense to me). But everyone is a bit different that way. Honestly, if I were you, I would take all of the sets and assemble one set of each type with the best coins out of each album. Then sell of the rest on ebay and get some other coins with the proceeds. That way you can continue the collection started by whoever left the collection to you. Being a fourth generation collector, i do this sort of thing with duplicate coins often.
