i asked this in coin chat and cant seem to get an answer. found 5 of these in 1981 proof sets does this look like an RPM to you? its a type two MM. the first pic are what all the type 2 MM dimes i can find look like. the other pics are mine. like i said, i have 5 exactly the same, so i guess that would rule out any kind of MD, right?
No, because if a press is having a problem such as loose die in the holder, it may produce many similar MD coins in order, before a slightly different looking MD group of coins come through. Usually proofs are supposedly held to a stricter standard, but I have seen many that have slipped through. In your upper right hand photo, it doesn't look RPM. If the other photos are the same coin, I fell there is some difference in lighting which makes it look more doubled. straight on within a diffuse light is the best way to look at it, as the contrast in reflectance of a proof can be a problem.IMO. For me profs and incluse coins are the hardest to verify from photos due to lighting. Jim
the upper right pic is of a "normal" type 2 MM i found online just for reference. the lower 4 pics are mine and are the "RPMs" in question. i can happen though. ok. thanks. the first of my pics is the one i took out of the case to show the separation. it is hard to shoot it for me through the holder. i suck at photography.
I should have explained it better. Yes, I read your post and realized the block of 4 coins were your own photos. In the upper right hand (your) photo, it does not look like a RPM. The rest of the post referred to the other 3 of (your) photos. Sorry for the confusion, Jim
All I can see in the photos looks like it may be a small die chip inside of the bottom part of the S .
