    Now that sounds like fun! Maybe the book could inform you for some live bank roll searching while you’re over there, like you said.

    Not sure if you can use Korean or not. But if not, and if you're going to go to a bank and ask for rolls, ask for "roll ju-hwa" (coin roll) and make the shape of a coin roll in the air with your hands.

    Here are the denominations:
    500-Won (oh baek won)
    100-Won (baek won)
    50-Won (oh sheep won)
    10-Won (sheep won)

    The coin shops are located in this neighborhood, near the Bank of Korea Musuem, which is a numismatic must, if you have the time.

    My current collection of coins from Korea is pretty limited but that' mostly due to a lack of knowledge. I tend to be a sponge for any numismatic knowledge. This will be a good entry into the topic. FYI, I plan on buying one at some point if I don't win.

    I have mostly Chinese and Japanese in my collection but I do have some Korean. With a proper reference book, I’m sure that will expand.

    These medals are now a big portion of the Korean Mint's source of revenue. Circulation coin mintages have dropped off sharply...

    @mlov43 - if there was one particular representative Korean coin type with a cool design (available at $100 or less, or maybe a bit more if it’s gold), which type would you recommend? For a collector who needs just one coin to represent South Korea in his collection?
