I was searching through some bankrolls and found this what I believe to be a die chip and it's the biggest one I have ever found they are usually small but this one to me compared to the rest is gigantic..lol well I was just wondering if a larger die chip is worth money?

A break along the rim is called a "cud". I'm not sure what it might be worth, but I'm sure there would be some collector who would pay a premium for it.

I'll answer your question with a question.

If a cud is a break along the rim, where would you expect to find a die chip?

Along the rim so in order for it to be considered a cud it has to be touching the Rim? And if the die chip or crack is say on Liberty than that is just what it is?

It's a Cud! I looked it up in the Cud Book and it's listed as LC-80-7.

    I would put it in a 2x2...
    Good find!:hail:

    Awesome

So this actual coin is in a book? Does it happen to say what it is worth or an estimate? Thanks probably the coolest error I have found yet except for the Arizona extra cactus on one side and a die chip in the B in liberty on the other side. Thanks for the help I appreciate it, and it's going into a 2x2 tonight!

Oh my ... that thing you call a extra cactus is actually only another common die chip. Keep after it and you will learn more as you go.

The definition of errors isn't a personal choice, either they're errors or they aren't. The personal choice is whether they have any value to the individual and whether or not they're collectable.

Now your just putting words in my mouth....I was talking about Die gouges/chips, not all errors. Some do consider them an error, some don't. Like rockdude said, it's an endless debate. Basically what I was going after is the "Double Cactus" IS an error, and rascal had to give another cocky, smart alec remark.
Once again, didn't your grandmother ever teach you...If you don't have anything nice to say, DON'T SAY IT AT ALL?!"
What can Doeppe learn and/or take from Rascal's comment? To me it seems like rascal is putting him down, calling him dumb, unknowledgeable, and then telling him keep at it....OK COACH....THANKS!

Just trying to stand up for the learning group....no need to put down people who are learning.

Congrats on the find. I have yet to find a cud on a modern coin. Now I do have several of the Arizona extra cactus (as it is called) and I think 2 extra finger lincoln. So keep on searching - I know I always check my change.

He's not the only one calling it a "extra cactus" it's been called that from the day it was minted.

sir you are the only one on this thread that is trying to down someone and it will never work out for you. I'm just too old and tough to let your sarcasm get to me.
Again I will remind you that you are forgetting what your poor old Grandmother told you many years ago . You are the one that started this grandmother thing and not me. I was raised by my Mother and not my Grandmother like some I know.

Oh and by the way I never said one word out of the way to Doeppe , you are the one that said dumb, unknowledgeable not me . You are barking up the wrong tree my friend. Now go find you another one to bark at. LOL
