Now that we are on the penny, post you British crowns also. To start, From SA union 5 shillings, and complete union crown set,
I should take a pic of my 1934 Wreath crown and post ... it's similar to that on my avatar, but that one isn't my actual coin.
The Scots had their own crowns, but valued at 60/- instead of 5/- like their English brethren. But Scots have always been liberal with denominating and nicknaming their currency. Whilst this coin circulated later as 60/- it was actually tariffed at 4 Merks(a Merk is 13/4) or 53/4 in Scots vernacular. But it was also referred to much later on as a "dollar":
Beautiful coin. Are you from Scotland? My dad's folks were "invited" to leave after The 45. Although not big fans of Bonnie Prince Charlie, they weren't fans of the monarchists in London, either. It seems sad to me that most Scots have forgotten their contribution and legacy of the eighteenth century enlightenment. Nice coin, again. guy
Ancestors left after the '45 also - perhaps a little more willingly since they came to own a sizable plot of western Virginia just prior to the American Revolution.
