it really depends on the year, but $12 is what I would consider a fair price. If you look on ebay, you'll see that a lot of them get bidded up to $15+

71S is generally a cheap one that can be obtained for pretty close to melt, but starting in 73S (proof silvers), the price starts to climb

I picked up 4 off eBay a few months back at around $9.50 each, this was when silver was a tad bit higher to if I recall correctly. So getting them slightly above or at melt price isn't too hard at times.

As with many coins, low grade uncs can be had for close to melt and on eBay that's usually what you get. Higher grade examples can command large premiums.

Most of the time the silvers are of better quality as they only came in the Mint sets in fact the only MS68's graded are silvers if I remember correctly.

The 4 I bought I'd grade each at around MS60-MS62. One even looked AU but they were still in the OGP. So I wouldn't claim the silver are necessarily better quality, I've yanked regular uncirculated Ike's from mint sets that look way better than their silver counterparts. ;)

There are always exceptions especially with the sets mow being over thirty years old. Just think some of them may of been in the same dealers mint set box all that time. Being pulled out every month or so by some guy trying to Cherry a nice one.

When it comes to Ike dollars condition is everything, eye appealing high grade Ikes are hard to come by and can be expensive, even ones graded by the TPGs have to be closely scrutinized in my opinion....

in higher grades certified clad Ikes are usually more than silver ones. the opposite is true of lower grade uncertified ikes.

They have a premium not only for the silver value, but the numismatic value--they are all comparatively low mintage for the series. So, in high grade, they get up there in price.

The 40% Ikes have a little more silver than the 40% halves, .3161 compared to .1479.

Multiplying .3161 by $28.09, and the silver value is $8.88.

The silver price is by weight not by, "more silver then a quarter but less then a half dollar so 12 would be a good deal then?".
Nice try but we don't get to call the price. :D;) If you're paying more than $8 it's too much unless it's in a really high grade.

Well, melt right now is $8.86 so I'd say more than $8 is probably what you'll pay.

They didn't come in mint sets, they came in blue envelopes (for the BU ones) by themselves.

You can buy them right now on Provident for $10.91 ea.
