Tough decisions and look what arrived today

The tough decision part is where to draw the line regarding this collection. Many of you know that my major passion for collecting resides in commemorative issues and as I add to the classic branch (moderns are a passion too :)) I'm finding it more and more difficult to obtain what I need with an eye toward affordability. Cut to the chase people, this collection is becoming expensive to maintain in mint state, so my collecting endeavor has resulted in obtaining AU examples of the rarer issues. I don't have to have the best example out there.....just one that I'm proud to add to my collection. It's the coin slob (remember that thread?) in me I guess. The blue collar collection of sorts (picked that tag line up from a very good friend who collects Busties). :) And hey, what the heck.....a nice AU coin could wind up in an MS-62 or '63 holder on another (better) day, right? Rationalization and mitigation aside, this arrived today.......

I'm a sucker for coins that portray (or at least attempt to) Danial Boone. :)

I fully support your decision Paul. I never understood why a little nice wear is judged so badly as to lower the grade so much, but a coin can have tons of bagmarks and ugly toning but still be MS. AU was always my sweet spot for US collecting.

    Nice coin!

Buying a coin for eye appeal is a much better decision than buying it simply for the grade. And the secret to enjoying a collection is a balance of affordability and quality.

    Nice pickup.

Thanks Hunt. As we discussed, it's a nice one indeed. Rim hit on the reverse isn't as distracting in hand as it was in the TT photos.

That's the town where the State Fair takes place every year in the sovereign state of Mizzo.......:)

Also......where these issues were first offered back in the day.

    Great looking one Green.
A little rub didn't hurt anyone. And if you ever go for that 2x4 one you'll need a bit more then rub to afford it :D

How close is that set now? Your flying thru it, it seems.

AU coins are great. I think they would be rare with commems.

Ya got that right Duke. Gonna probably need a 2X4 down the road...... but for now, not a priority.

Set's coming along real fine dear fellow. Even considering adding a few of the gold issues. :) Gonna need deeper pockets and more time though......:)
