Here are two new coin club medals I just added to my collection. Both are very well made and exhibit first rate craftsmanship. I particularly like the first one because of its unusual shape and design elements. The Phoenix medal is, apparently, pewter and made by MACO. The simple design is very effective in my estimation. Another interesting thing about it is the very small die crack that shows on the obverse, very unusual for a quality medal like this. Thanks for looking. Bruce
One of my favorite SCD's. A few years back, I met a guy online who found a hoard of these in his garage. They suspect they were from his dad who used to own a restaurant and may have taken them as payment. He said many of them were corroded, but the best ones were sent into NGC. I bought this one. He had a few higher graded but wanted really good money for them. He had a bunch lower graded. THis was a nice middle of the road. I get giddy everytime I look at this item. It has such a great story that goes with it.
That's really different jaceravone. I'm not at all familiar with Bickford Dollars but will do some research on them now and learn something about them. Are these considered "So Called Dollars"? Bruce
Hey Bruce, I am at work so I don't have my Hibler Kaplan book with me, but if my memory serves me correct, they are definitely SCD's but they were added late and I don't think they were in the first edition HK book. Look at the Bickford gold dollar pattern coin. I believe it is in the Red Book. That is one I would love to have. As for the aluminum Bickford dollar, there are 4 varieties with the one I own being the most common. Joe
The regular (aluminum) ones are not in the Red Book, but I think the gold pattern one is. Once again, I am at work and don't have access to my stuff. Frank, see if the gold one is in there. It may be in the back of the Red Book.
Just a follow up... the 1874 Bickford Eagle (J-1373, gold) - Only 2 known. Last one sold in a 2010 Heritage auction for 1.2 mil. Thats next on my list! I wish. Coin can be found in the Red Book, in the pattern section on page 368 on the 2013 edition. Joe
This is one of my few Medals, but the one of which I'm most proud because it's a family piece that has been passed down from my Grandfather. Columbian Expo, Gilt Bronze, Proof-like, high relief.
Here's the latest addition to my coin hobby related exonumia. As always, ANA issues are always very nicely done as this one is. The medal was made by the Medallic Art Company and is big at 58mm. Bruce
