This is one of the two Morgans I got this week from favorite dealer auctions. I posted it before, and said that I wasn't sure if it had a shot at PL. Doing the reflectivity test, I get 6-8" with 10pt type, and those mirrors sure look deep to me. Also looks undergraded as a 64. Comments? Feel free to trash the coin if you so desire. :)

J/K on that--there was a previous thread that became an "I don't like it" series, and I was amused at that. :)

I'm seeing some frost and the coin looks very clean. as for the mirrors, the reverse looks better than the obverse (as is common) do you have a better picture of the obverse?(especially the cheek?)

Here's as close in as I can get with detail still remaining:

Here's a DMPL that I own, of the alleged same grade:

Unless you're planning to sell it, does it really matter what the plastic/label says? I mean, if you bought it for non DMPL money, and it looks that to you, then you got a good deal.

Well - I think it stands a shot at 65, but I am not sure it will make it. As for PL I can't tell, but will take you word from the test. Nice coin no matter the grade.

I don't see it going up in grade the rub marks in the hair above the ear catch my eye too much when first looking at it. As for the PL or DMPL images leave too much open to debate to determine for me. Have too have it in hand.

Based on the pics the fields look too chattery to me for the PL designation on an '82-S. If I saw it in hand I might change my mind.

There are no rub marks there. :) It is the beginning of tone. As you said, have to have it in hand. :)

NOT mine--Here is a random MS 65 1882s from Ebay--mine looks as clean or cleaner. Not debating the PL, as that is hard to see on a photograph. I don't think mine is a DMPL, but possibly MS 65 PL, and under graded. Doesn't matter as I have no intention of selling it.

Thats one nice coin at what I call a decent price. Although all the rest on the search page seem to be over price guide except for the one dog.:)

Maybe I'm wrong but I interpreted his comment as referring to the luster grazes on the high points of the hair.

Regardless of whether the obverse has a shot at 65, doesn't the carbon on the reverse limit the grade? I don't want to get on your bad side (because I saw the thread you were referring to and totally agree with you), but I've never seen a 65 with carbon this prominent.

Well, since you said "feel free to trash", I'm assuming you won't take everything so personally this time around...

    So...

IMHO, the grade assigned is accurate, and there doesn't look to be enough contrast for a 'PL' designation. :)

So you're saying my age reflects on my knowledge of Morgan Dollars?

I'm not sure I understand your logic. Please elaborate. I'll kindly listen to every word of nonsense on how, due to my age, I know nothing about coins.......................

Also - Who ever said I was an "expert"? :rollling: It sure wasn't me.

    Your sarcasm is not amusing.
