I shipped a 1961 P+D Mint Set to a lady probably 30 minutes away and she is claiming the item wasn't delivered. I'm not worried about me losing if she files a claim since I the seller shipped to the listed shipping address she had on PayPal and the item was shipped/delivered to this address and confirmed via delivery confirmation #. The item was under $250 and did not require me to have "signature confirmation". As far as I can see I upheld all parts of my obligation as a seller. I'm starting to get fed up with Ebay/USPS Anyone ever have this happen/what was the outcome??
I only had that happen once, and there was no problem. On low ticket items like these, eBay will side with the seller as long as delivery confirmation shows "delivered".
I told her I'd contact her post office tomorrow morning and see if maybe they "forgot" to deliver the package. I know sometimes things are forgotten and they need to be reminded. *fingers crossed*
The PO does mess up a lot. I had shipments stated delivered when it was not. This happened twice, once I got it late and once I never did get the item.
Just had this happen today, Had someone call up at the shop saying they did not recieve the package, we checked UPS.com and the tracking number, said it was delivered and even signed for! But the buyer claims nothing. Weird stuff I tell ya!
I sell computers on eBay for a living. I know first hand how difficult it can be dealing with morons out there. Nearly 30% of the buyers never actually pay for the item they bought. That's a lot of work for me to deal with. Then I have people who so absolutely crazy thing. I had one guy recently pay for a computer, then said he was local and wanted to come pick it up. I waited a week for him to pick it up, emailing him every day asking when he wanted to come get it. Never heard from him. Then he filed a claim with paypal saying he had not received the item. When I called paypal they did some investigation and found out the guy really just changed his mind and didn't want the computer. But they still counted it as a claim against me even though they knew what really happened. Craigslist is even more irritating. I post very detailed ads with every piece of information you could possibly imagine. They call me up day and night and ask stupid questions that are answered if they'd just read the ad. For example, I am explicit that the computer works perfectly and includes a money-back guarantee and a 90 day warranty. They call me up and ask "Does it work? Is there anything wrong with it?" Or they call me up and say "How much do you want for this?" Even though the price is clearly indicated. Other people want me to text them photographs of the computers even though I provide usually 4 to 6 really clear photos in the ad of the exact computer I'm selling. Or they want to know what condition the computer is in, even though I've provided extremely sharp and clear photos of the computer. It is really infuriating sometimes. And the MOST infuriating part of all, is that after all of the annoying calls and stupid questions, and extra photographs, I'd say about 70% of the people who say they are coming to buy never actually show up. Never hear from them again. I wait around, and wait around. I have other things to do, and places to go, but if I have a customer coming I have to wait at the house. For nothing. People are so rude and inconsiderate. But then they'll show up 2 weeks later to have me repair the computer they bought from some other joker on craigslist. They thought they were getting a better deal but ended up buying something that had problems with no warranty. By the time I repair it for them they end up spending more money than if they had just bought from me to begin with. OK.. my rant is over.
I would if the item was worth $250+ Good news guys, I called the post office today and I spoke with the mailman he said he delivered the package but the lady rarely checks her mailbox *where he put it*. He told me he would deliver it to the door today when he stopped to deliver the daily mail. I just received a message from her saying the coins have been delivered, problem solved.
I've had a situation like that happen to me as the buyer. I would check the USPS website for a package, it would show delivered but there wouldn't be anything in my mailbox. A few days later it would show up. I think those guys scan in parcels in advance just to check mark a box on their priority list. Not very cool way to enhance the image of a drowning entity.
I could never do what you do; don't have the patience for it. However, if it makes you feel any better, I teach drawing at the college level (after having taught art at the university level for many years) and it's no different with my students (mostly non-majors). While a few are very sharp and others try their best, it's amazing how many don't work—can't apply themselves for even short periods, don't pay attention, can't follow simple instructions (let alone problem-solve), can't communicate and have no concept of classroom etiquette. And of course, as I get older, it gets worse every year. Sometimes I wonder how our society even functions. Sorry to get OT a bit but just wanted to commiserate.
UPS does odd stuff sometimes. I bought some stuff from NewEgg years back and I was excited when I looked at the tracking number from work and it showed "delivered". I went home and looked everywhere. No package. I checked with my wife just in case, and she said she hadn't seen anything either. I called UPS and they said someone signed for it. I hung up and said to myself "That's odd". I asked my neighbors. Nothing. I called UPS again the next day and they were able to look at the "signature". The "signature" read "Left on porch". I checked the porch again when I got home. Nothing. I called NewEgg and they said they'd take care of it. I got another tracking number and a couple days later, I had my parts. Then, a couple more days later, someone returned the original package. It had been opened and I guess whoever stole it didn't have any use for the parts. I called NewEgg and they said to keep them because they had already been reimbursed by UPS. What I think would be interesting is to study the number of packages that supposedly didn't make it to their destination for non-FeeBay packages and FeeBay packages. I suspect the number of delivery issues for FeeBay items would be astronomical compared to others.
That is common practice in my neighborhood, delivery confirmations are scanned before starting their route, or at the end of the route. Even if they scan it when they deliver it, if they deliver it to the wrong address and scan it, you don't get it but it still shows it was delivered. This is why delivery confirmation is worthless except for protecting yourself as a seller on eBay.
You hit the nail on the head, never once have I seen any value in buying DC, especially when you're at the post office sending a "non-eBay" parcel out. It's a smoke and mirrors offering if you tell me and it's simply a profit making derivative of signature confirmation.
You will be covered, but the buyer might be telling the truth in that it was not delivered to the proper address.
My USPS delivery service leaves a lot to be desired. I've watched USPS tracking whenever I get a tracking number. More than once my stuff was delivered to another address. I've eventually gotten it only because the receiver was an honest person. So marked as being delivered doesn't mean it was delivered to the correct address.
