Whats so good about ikes theres a bin of them at my silver store i go to for 1.50 a piece why so much
First, like any coin, you have to like it. Second, you have to appreciate that nicely struck, high quality Ikes are hard to come by. Although these coins were minted in the millions, they were dumped in bins where they were quite frequently beat up. Then keep in mind, that 1971 and 1972 were only found in circulation and not in mint sets, high grade IKes as the one Ruben posted are rare and expensive. The ones you find for a $1.10 or $1.25 are beaters which command no value other than face and I spend them exactly as that. I saw that coin last week and almost bought it.
I don't see how anybody can gratuitously trash an entire series of coins. To say that all IKES are worth $1.50 is to say that the Green Bay Packers and Buffalo Bills are exactly the same (if you know football, you know the joke there). I own and have owned some beautiful Ikes, that are worth a considerable premium. There are some circulated, beaten up ones that are worth face value. However, generalizing that they are not worth anything is precisely that--a generality. Ikes have gotten hotter as of recent, and have become far more collectible, due to some low mintages, being destroyed, and many varieties. I am very happy that I got the full set, as BU Ikes are actually an attractive coin, with much appreciation value for future days.
maybe ill just have to look at them. havent yet figured they were a semi modern coin with little value the red book has very low prices ?
They are NOT of very little value when in high condition, and for certain dates. You're not getting that--some of the types and varieties go for big money, and the high grade MS of most dates tend to be very desirable.
i understand fully i think there very good condition i thaught the were newer when i glanced at the bin im just going to look and see whats in there
"Crater Neck" Ike, any one else got one of these?...Just a weird abnormality I'm trying to find out more about. Thanks, Hal in Denver
