Well I will not be buying searching for silver anymore...

I bought 5 rolls of halves a roll of old quarters, and a few rolls of dimes yet I found zero silver at all. I think the banks sort out the silver from the rest of the coins. It really makes me mad. I guess I'll have to stick with pennies and nickles.

So, you've bought about 10 rolls of coin and you're complaining about no silver? You failed to research this hobby my friend. "The Banks" don't sort out silver, other than some in-the-know tellers.

I have literally searched hundreds of rolls and turned up nothing, then hit payday in a big way. The latter keeps me going. I think I actually have found more silver in nickels than in dimes or quarters. But halves have been vedy vedy good to me.

Keep looking. Or give up and leave the rest of the silver to us.

And why does it make you "mad?" Would rational people just leave hunks of silver lying around for you to find?

Part of the thrill of CRH is finding the irrationally-placed coins.... either because some moron dumped his mother's jar of silver coins into his own pocket change collection to take to the bank, or because a silver coin just slipped through the purges of 1964, 1980-81, and 2008-2009, or because that one roll of coins just somehow got stuck in bank's vault for a few decades until a hurried teller noticed a dusty roll of dimes underneath a table. Who knows? Who cares? The important thing is there is silver out there and it can be found with patience.

Keep looking you will find something. I'm a teller for one of the biggest banks around and i can tell you at my branch we are not just sitting around looking for sliver. just my two cents!

I did not know that Golden Valley, AZ had one of the biggest banks around :rollling:

All I've seen when driving through Golden Valley are a couple of small banks and billboard advertisements for porn shops. Maybe CMC commutes to Bullhead City or Kingman but the banks aren't very big out there, either.

Five rolls of halves and a few rolls of dimes? Amateur.

You haven't even gotten your toes wet! Only after you've gone through dozens of boxes, month after month and not found anything should you be complaining. A few rolls is like a drop in the ocean.

Take a look at the threads where members find silver and you'll see that dedication and persistance pays off. Sometimes big time.

The best thing about coin roll hunting is that the stock you pick up changes everyday. One day the boxes from the bank will be nothing but skunks and the next day, just before you walk in, someone cashes in Grandpa's rolled coins and none of them are newer than 1960! It can happen and does. Right place, right time.

Keep at it and soon you'll be looking at your stacks of silver you got at face value!

My find in a roll of dimes

Don't give up to soon. I found this beauty in a roll. I like going to small local banks, seems to have better rolls and tend to roll their own coins. Which means customers take their change to cash out. Also found a 1901 indian head.

Searched through 5 boxes of halves over the weekend and got a Frankie. 5000 coins for one silver. I was happy I did not get completely skunked. For some people it's just not their game.

The fun is in the chase. Yes, I get discouraged from time to time when I go through roll after roll and find no silver but once in a while, I find one and it fires me up to go after more. Finding premium value pennies and nickels is not much easier than finding silver, so I wish you the best of luck.

Conversely you can ask tellers if they have any halves, like I did last year - the teller said only one but I probably wouldn't want it because it was dirty. I asked to see it, yup, I want it - 1964 very darkly toned. It is a hit or miss business. Hits are like hitting jackpots on slot machines, and they fuel the addiction.
