Anyone ever have any good luck snagging some errors off a bid board? Mismarked or as is?

Also, anyone have a good recommendation for a bid board in southern california?

Never really looked too hard for error coins as they aren't my thing, but I have cherrypicked a few varieties off the bid boards. Also got some decent prices on varieties that were marked too. No bid boards in T.O. though. The closest one is Citi Coin in Van Nuys. The board ends each week at 2:30pm Saturday (but you should definitely arrive early to have time to view lots and bid). The next closest is at Coins Plus in Newhall (up by Magic Mtn.) and that board is a little larger and that one ends on Tuesday nights at 7:30pm. This Tuesday is the end of a 2-week long open board that usually has better stuff. There's also a "buy board" at Ketts Koin Kastle down in Oxnard, but that isn't quite the same as a bid board as all of those coins are usually just hung up starting at retail prices. Let me know if you have any other questions about those.

Also, I'd recommend maybe joining one or more of the local coin clubs if you're not already a member. The Woodland Hills Coin Club meets monthly on the 2nd Thursday of each month and isn't too far from you. Also, the Glendale Coin Club is a good one that meets on the 2nd Friday of each month, but it's a little further away from T.O., though we do have members from T.O. that come to each meeting.

Wow great info Mike thanks a million. Just curious, what are the benefits to joining a club? Are there specialized clubs?

I'm also gonna check out the Bid Board in Van Nuys, that one looks good!

Hey VDBforDave . There are a ton of reasons to join a local club,(or several). At the Glendale Coin Club we have presentations on a wide variety of topics, we have an auction where you can buy or sell coins raffles, and you can meet people who are interested in all different types of collecting. We have members that collect pretty much everything from silver strike medals from Vegas to souvenir items of the Pan Pac convention. We also put on a coin show once a year( This year it's Oct 21st in VanNuys). We only meet once a month, on a friday, and we have members from all over So Cal.
I'll second what Mike said about the Bid Boards so long as you don't bid on any of the coins I want on the Citi Coin board;). JK. At times there are some good deals to be had and usually there are a few errors on the board. I usually try to make it every week. The Coins plus board ending on a Tuesday night kinda kills it for me, and going on a Saturday and putting my bids in doesn't result in too many wins. But I'm sure Mike has enough competition up there he doesn't mind me missing it:D There is also a buy board at Universal Coin Galleries in Pasadena, but definitely not the same as the bid board. There is a coin shop that just opened in Torrance that is planning a bid board, but when I went they still didn't have it figured out and running.
Anyway, if you make it to Citi Coin at auction end feel free to say hello. Or feel free to PM me if you want any info on a club or shows coming up.

No recommendations for bid boards in SoCal, but I do frequent one here in the midwest at a local coin shop. It wraps on Saturday at noon, I normally put my bids in on Thursday or Friday. I've bid on error coins, only won one, it was a 1964 dime with a clipped planchet. I didn't pay much over the spot silver price.
