This is the 2000 5 Peso Butterfly I had been searching for over 5 years. I finally was able to locate one in Finland of all places. Took about 3 weeks to arrive after shipping. This is one of 4 in the series and I intend to collect them all. How many items can you find in the butterfly?

Finally the 2001 Onza, another beautiful bullion/collector coin.

So there it is. I hope you enjoy as much as I do. Lets see some more coins from South of the Border.

Not from Mexico as such, but part of the Ibero American series I. Quincentennial of the discovery of the Americas from Chile, 1991 10 000 pesos.

I'll have to find one of those. A real "world" coin with the arms from 14 countries. Thanks for sharing, Derick.

This whole series of Mexican coins is quite beautiful and I wish that I had known about it earlier and will be on the look out for all 8 of this series. One of the newsletters that I subscribe to tells of new coins that are being issued around the world.

Some of these new issues are quite striking. I would like to take the chance and attempt to purchase them from the issuing mint but am hesitant about doing so because of my questions of receiving coins through international mail and and payment questions.

I would be interested in hearing from other forum members and their adventures in purchasing coins from other countries.

I think that I will start a thread about this very topic.

You have posted many very nice Mexican coins in your 3 threads. Here are a few you missed, from my collection.

The 8 Reales is on the list. I am trying to collect the silver pesos and other silver crowns sized coins from Mexico.
One of the sub-sets I plan to put together is a example of each .900, .720,.500,and .100, and so on. Next, I'll work on the different silver denominations as a set. Mexico has so much diversity in their coinage. The coins from the Revolution is another example.

sonlarson, thank you for posting these beautiful coins from Mexico. A country which I have visited many times and have learnt to love.

I do not have any mexican coins (unfortunately), but I do collect coins from WAY south of the border, like 10000 miles south to be more precise: Chile and Peru.
Don't mean to hijack your thread, but here is a Volcano peso from Santiago, minted the year independence was gained from Spain in 1818.

Oh yes. ;) The pieces of the 5th and 8th series (actually V to VIII), also from the other participating countries, can be found here: http://www.fnmt.es/index.php?cha=collector&scha=14&page=224&spage=496

If the page is displayed in Spanish and you prefer the English version, click on "Welcome" at the top, and then on "8th Ibero-American Series: Historic Ibero-American Coins" (not on the "+") in the What's new section. I like those issues, but they are somewhat expensive especially if one wants all issues from every country ...
