LordM (& friends) Giveaway #82 (Mark Lovmo Korean Coin reference book)

    Contest status: CLOSED
    Drawing: (@H8_modern won)
Shipping status: was shipped by Mark Lovmo (@mlov43)
Winner's notice of receipt: Post #60

Hello, everyone, and welcome to the latest giveaway. I have numbered this as a "LordM" giveaway for archival purposes, but I don't actually deserve credit as the donor this time. I'm just the contest coordinator. You've actually got three other folks to thank for this opportunity. More on that in a moment.

What we have for the prize here is a signed copy of Mark Lovmo (@mlov43)'s newly published 400-page, full color-illustrated book:

South Korean Coins In The Era of Development.

    SKC.png

I gather this is one of the first and perhaps most comprehensive books so far about South Korean coins to be published in English. But rather than go on about that, here- I'll let you read... the press release.

Here also is a quick video preview (page flip) of the book. There are also some full page previews in the press release linked above.

Now, the giveaway. This will be a random drawing, done on or shortly after February 1st, 2023, depending on my schedule. The contest is open for entries until such time as I announce the result of the drawing.

To enter: merely type the words "entry post" in your first reply to this thread, and a few words about why you're interested in getting this book.

This is an $85.00 book, folks, so serious entries only, please. We want this to go to someone who really wants it and will actually use it, not just stick it on a dusty shelf somewhere and forget about it.

(I do think “I just want to add it to my library” is an acceptable reason, however.) So if that's you, and you are interested, then by all means please do post your entry post, and good luck! :)

Notice I said "we". The people who made this giveaway possible are:

Mark Lovmo, the author (@mlov43), (who gave us a discount), and two folks who made donations towards the purchase of the book:

    Louie J. (@tibor), and

    Randy A. (@Randy Abercrombie).

Randy deliberately overpaid in his donation, sending $30 more than suggested.

    (This guy, I tell ya...)

So, since I collected $30 more than we needed to buy the book, perhaps I can use some of Randy's surplus donation to buy some actual South Korean coins to go along with it, as an additional prize! I do not have any in my own inventory. Perhaps @mlov43 does. I'll ask him.

Update: bonus coin in Post #24 (also included in giveaway!)

We just wanted to recognize and support one of our CoinTalk numismatic authors and spark some interest in his topic.

    Cheers!

Kind of you, but for this particular contest, I don't think we should be entering for other folks unless they've expressed an interest in the topic. We want to be sure this book goes go to someone who will be interested in collecting or studying South Korean coins.

Now, if @panzerman does want in, and posts an entry himself, then I'll count yours as an additional entry for him.

Forgot about that this is a strange one.

Perhaps not so strange, since I explained the rationale. We want the book to go to someone who actually wants it. While I certainly do encourage folks to enter on someone else's behalf in a lot of my giveaways (it's a thoughtful thing to do), the statement of desire/interest on the part of the contestant is necessary for this one.

For example, if someone randomly sent me a book on South Korean coins out of the blue, and I had no interest in them, then the whole effort would be wasted, see?

    Entry Post

First, thank you to all of you guys, @mlov43 , @tibor , @Randy Abercrombie and @lordmarcovan

I've got a very personal interest in S. Korean coins. My daughter in law is first generation S Korean. They gave us two beautiful grandsons.

I've purchased a couple of coins/sets for them, and this book would be an outstanding accoutrement to go with the coins.

Here's one set I painstakingly acquired for them. Mark was actually distantly involved during this purchase. I even tried to score a set for him, unsuccessfully :(

Looks like a fantastic book. I bet you can see I did not put those two magic words in this because this needs to go to someone who really would read and enjoy it thoroughly rather than as an aside.

I think this is such a generous offer and opportunity for the right person.

    Carry on.

Very worthwhile giveaway. I would just put it on a shelf - not a dusty one though. So I won't say the magic words. Thanks to all those behind this effort.

To all whom chipped in to make it happen many thanks...but the book wouldn't be appreciated as much as another collector whom collects the series. Thank you.

    ....... for @masterswimmer

I purchased one of these from Mark already. You could use this book for self defense if needed, she's got some heft. :D

Kudos to the folks who chipped in on making this giveaway happen!

Entry Post - I will read it and treasure it. My interest in world coins has increased over the years along with my ability to travel overseas. My wife and I will be visiting Korea in August and this book will be a great assist to my coin hunting while we are there.

Sorry for calling you out on this, but you do sometimes seem to jump the gun and leap into these contests without reading the instructions, sometimes only minutes after I’ve posted them, and before I’ve even finished editing.

Most of the contests I post do follow a similar format, but not all of them. In practically none of my contests has there ever been a prize for being the first to post. Slow down a bit. Read the intro. Heck, give me time to finish writing the intro. ;)

Good on you for going to bat for @masterswimmer.
