Richard Snow has (successfully) done the same thing in the area of Flying Eagle and Indian Cents that the CAC is attempting to do in all collecting fields, so the idea does have some precedent. After reviewing a coin and determining it is PQ, Snow puts an Eagle Eye photo seal over the slab. Example sold @ Heritage.

Yeah, they were. But if you keep on looking you will find more posts where I readily admitted I was wrong with that prediction. Back then, I didn't think enough collectors would buy into the idea. But they sure did.

Yes, and the guys rolling around in piles of money behind the scenes are thankful. Of course, they're also busy thinking up the next thing collectors will pay for, even though the answer is obvious....anything.

However, that is exactly what CAC does, gives an opinion of a TPG opinion on grade, and charging the public for a sticker.

I 100% agree with that statement. Might not ever happen, but I agree it needs to.

Moderns are just a glimmer on the horizon. They already accept Eisenhower submissions. Can bullion be far off?

I can't help but wonder if fifteen years from now if John Albanese will have left CAC and will be starting a new service to examine the CAC stickered coins and give THOSE a seal of approval? After all he's done it three times, why not four? (co founder of PCGS, Founder of NGC, Founder of CAC, Founder of ???)

Maybe a quality photocertificate of the CAC stickered slab, kind of like a combination PCGS True View and an Eagle Eye Photoseal. Keep your coins safe in the SDB while you enjoy your "collection" through the photocetificates. The certificates show the slab serial number so they can definitely be connected with a specific coin, no switching. And eventually we can develop a climate contoled central storage facility where all the coins can be kept safe and secure and they can be bought and sold just by using the certificates. Coin shows with no coins, just cases of certificates. Dealers can carry a whole lot more inventory with them because they've gotten rid of all that bulky heavy metal, and security isn't that much of a problem anymore because all you are carrying are pictures. :)

IIRC, the consensus in the numismatic world was that the CAC would fail. Doug had a lot of company, but our friend Leadfoot seems to be somewhat of a visionary with his support and optimism.

Scary scenario, and if we keep splitting hairs, a possibility too. The ultimate eventuality where we loose site of what the hobby is really all about......to have and to hold.....to touch and caress.......pray it never happens.
