NT or AT?

I've seen a bunch of crazy toners; this one is definitely one of the stranger ones I've seen. It seems like the luster hasn't been tampered with so I'm hesitant to call this AT. What do you all think? (On a side note, this coin reminds me of some of WingedLiberty's Wheat proofs that have a similar tone...)

    Under direct light:

And a couple to show off its luster:

Let me know what you all think!

    Thanks,

I don't think the toning on that coin is market acceptable and I would classify it as very questionable.

That's what I'm afraid of. The reverse is really smooth but the obverse bothers the heck out of me. If it is AT, I don't know where those yellow blotches would come from. Burns? Eggs? Chemicals (most likely)?

AT. No question in my mind from these images.

Generally not market acceptable toning IMO.

AT, no doubt about it. At least that's my bet. Charlie potatoes strikes again. :D

What was the name of the dip that causes that coloring?

Tell you what you do creme, submit it to one of the TPGs, and if comes back graded with no mention of questionable toning on the label, turn around and send it to CAC for a sticker. If they sticker it, you can post it in the CAC Dreck thread: http://www.cointalk.com/t211178/

my guess is that PCGS would come back with a Genuine, Questionable Color designation

I would buy it as a curiosity, if there was not much mark up for the toning. However, I would not assume that I could unload it, and thus, would not put more than 75 cents to a dollar into it.

Thanks for all the responses -- my suspicions were confirmed! AT or not, the coin itself is still beautiful...now, time to make some $$ off some bidiots on eBay.

On a side note, I have no clue what caused this type of AT. Anyone seem to have a clue?

I would expect a thin film material like a thin oil based like MS-70, Blue Ribbon, or similar, that was applied in ways other than as instructed. IMO.

MS70 often causes copper to turn blue.

Please don't advertise as NT though if you do sell it on eBay. There are idiots out there indeed, but that doesn't entitle one to expose such people and take advantage of them. :thumb:

Over used acetone can cause it.
