Since I can't afford these actual notes just yet, I've opted for the souvenir varieties.

The porthole and $5 educational are notes you could get - I've seen the $5 go for $400, which is alot but still within reach if you save and put your mind to it. Or go mow lawns for a couple weekends...

Really trying to limit myself to collect something more specific. But I can't seem too, my collection is all over the place. I'm buying what I can that appeals to me, right now this is it.

Got this a couple days ago along with another ace that I'll post soon. It has some very delicate margin splits that I am going to attempt to repair using some professional paper repair product - the splits are enough that I worry they will one day go through the entirely of the not along the folds if care is not taken. Still, I like the face up on the note...

Got these from my Grandfather today

My Grandfather gave these to me today, they were his mother's. They're Series 1963 all uncirculated and there is one from each district...I'm more of a coin guy, but these are pretty neat.

Let us know how the repairs go. I'm interested to hear about it. Are you using Japanese hinging paper - or something different?

I am not sure if I want to actually use the japanese paper - though I would use it on a more substantial repair that required support, I have an old confederate I plan to use it on for sure. The splits, which are on the right side of the note, are so fine and the paper so close that I think a quality wheat starch adhesive can mend the paper to itself satisfactorily without using a second party tissue to bind.

I also wondered if grinding a fine tissue into the adhesive wouldn't make a superior note mortar for notes like this where the paper is touching on each side. I was thinking the added tissue fibers could make a superior strength bond.

I wish I had access to this from a local store, just don't see it. Have a site I am looking at for the materials. I just want to protect this note from severing the right quarter, because otherwise the paper itself and design are in very good shape.

Thats an attractive note....i dont have a huge interest in legal tenders but that i wont mind owning.those are fairly scarce to arnt they?

Only 128,000 of the 1966* were printed. So yes quite scarce.

And MEC2; I know you buy these notes from your secret fishing hole, but you are still dropping quite a lot of these notes of yours. ;-)

Actually, almost all of these are eBay - my $100 gold coin note is from my secret fishing hole. I rarely buy from there, but when I do, I generally land a big one!

I should have a nice passle of notes coming my way this week as well, but nothing like two $100 gold certs and a 66* - much more mundane acquisitions.

I really wish I could get my Colonial currency acquisitions moving. I have been stuck on 7 colonies for a long while now - trying to get a 1776 note from each colony. Got off to a fast start but have hit the wall. Picked up a Virginia issued on my birthday in 1776 but I already had a Virginia... slow going.

Told y'all I was gonna whip this threads ass...

Not too much really, you can get a nice quality 66 for $150, that's just a $50 premium over face. The 66A will cost you another $30, and a star will run $300 and up. But it's not like collecting educationals are anything like that...

It doesn't happen very often, but it looks like the BEP created an error on a replacement note (star).....

Steve just curious as to where you picked up that Chicago star note?Thats well beyond the tolereance for margin space cause it goes into the design correct? Which makes it an error note.

Well, this the first large size national I have from a Chester bank - I've tried and failed in the past, and I won this... by 25 cents. Woohoo! Anyways, I do have some smaller Chester 1929 nationals but those are all from Pennsylvania, this is my first Chester, NY national.
