I would still think that 1973 Ikes from ebay or a bank would be worth at least $1.25 each. Even if they've been broken out of the mint set, they probably haven't been in the wild for too long.

EDIT: And I also find Ikes at the banks fairly often (I get at least a few every couple months). I go to a lot of banks though. You won't find them if you're only checking one place.

If you want to avoid the hassles of dealing with banks it may be worth it. If you are willing to put up with rude tellers you can get them at the bank

I don't see the point of buying Ikes....Do you think they are going to become valuable anytime soon?

    I don't see it......

I love asking banks for any large dollar coins. I got a nice black morgan in nyc last year.

Yeah, why collect something because we like it, its all about the $$$, right?

I see them on sale in the coin magazine classified all the time for about $1.25 each (plus shipping) in rolls of 20 or more (there seems to be someone in Nevada who loves to sell rolls of things). I'd buy them if I could be sure they aren't the Ikes that get rubbed to death in casinos.

Though it's a small series, and one easily collected if you buy proof and Mint sets containing Ikes, I wouldn't buy rolls or bags of Ikes blindly as you could wind up with the casino rubs.

Rarity and "popularity" are two completely different things.

You stated that there were no varieties for 1973 and 1973-D Eisenhowers. I showed you that there in fact were yet you now say its "not desireable".

So were you originally intending to say that there are no "valuable" varieties?

Just admit that there are in fact at least 2 varieties for the 1973-D Eisenhower. Whether they are "desireable" or not is unimportant since there was a time when the 1937-D 3 legged buffalo was "not desireable". There is also the time where the 2 feather Buffalo and the Bugs Bunny Franklin(s) are not "desireable" as desireability is up to the individual.

    Dang!

Does this mean I gotta throw out my foreign coins since, I don;t really see any appreciation in price for them?

I know its true of the gaming tokens I've collected over the years. I mean, they don't even have cash value!

he asked if it was a good deal so clearly he cares about the $$$ involved in such a transaction. If you couldn't care less whether what you buy appreciates in value, then good for you. You don't have to leave snipey comments to people who like to buy coins that they expect to appreciate in value, unless that's just your style...

My style is coin collecting, not being "snippy" at all, I collect coins for their history, beauty, as most typical coin collectors do.

Yes, I got a few Ike dollars that were sitting in a teller's change tray. They were in nice condition too. I didn't want them so I sold them to someone that did at face.

Tsk, tsk. You took words out of my mouth. My previous argument focus on RPM and current collectors' desirable. 3 legged buffalo, 2 feather buffalo and bugs bunny franklin are different area of varieties. I have read collectors' preference on varieties. RPM is less desirable than other variety because to detect the variety on RPM require magnify. Most collectors' prefer to see variety from naked eyes. Collectors' current desirable on IKEs are King of IKE, FEV and DDO/DDR. RPM is less desirable, but not ignore. Back to OP's question, is it worth to buy the IKEs from 1971 to 1978? My opinion that 1973-1978 isn't worth to buy from bulk, but 1971-1972 does. That's all. :)

Ha! I found the same seller today and bought all he had, 24 Ikes for $25. On a couple the nickel is sort of delaminating - kinda like you would see on a very old nickel plated revolver or something. That may not be a good reference for some, but it's like the nickel is flaking off. I'll just spend those.

Guys if I had known my uncle was going to go thru them and cash em in I would have posted them here... I didn't even know he had them until he cashed em in

I find Ike's quite often at banks. I never ask for them, but tellers just offer them to me when I ask for halves. I would never touch an Ike at more than $1(unless it is worth considerably more) but have already sold some at garage sales for $1.25. I guess if that's what you like, go for it!
