nice. You crack me up with your sniping. You do understand that sniping is no different then just putting in a max bid, right? lol

Of course I understand that--I used to set up property auctions online with my business. :) it is just the thrill of victory. Practically, there is no difference in putting in a max. bid, obviously. :) In terms of Endorphins, it is another matter. :)

Thats why we buy coins right because when you get a good deal your endorphin's kick in and you get high, kinda like running lol.....

haha.. that's true. Nice pickup too ! I've been eyeballing Krypt since your last post, but nothing this week drove me to bid, even though there were a lot of nice coins there. Next week may be different... I just hope everyone is still staring into the magic box next weekend.

I read the title of this thread and thought it was the coin I just got out-sniped on.

I had been watching a Franklin half from Kryp for the better part of a week, and put my last second max bid in and got out bid by $2. Very disappointing. Oh well, just more money to spend on the next one.

BTW, very attractive coin you won there.

Not sure about that on running. Reaching the summit of a mountain you just spent several hours climbing up is a whole different story.

I used to do downhill skiing before moving to Florida (and wrecking my knees). That was big on endorphins. :)

I think people either love it or hate it. I really enjoy hiking but prefer not to run.

I'm sure there are people who love to run but wouldn't want to go hiking.

how does a person continue to have toned coins to sell every week?

I guess the obvious answer is hes a dealer, and a pretty big one at that, I also remember him saying a month or two ago, that he was let go from his job and was taking dealing on full time. When you're a pretty big dealer you have good connections with other dealers.

He is a consinger and has many clients. Not to mention the founder of the "Toned Coin Collectors Society"..or something similar.

You outbid me on the '78. Lovely coins! I have got several from kryptonite over the past couple years and he never ceases to please! :)

This statement couldn't be more incorrect... Sniping at the last second leaves no opportunity for the previous highest bidder to rebutt. I never understood why somebody places a bid on an item anytime prior to the last 5 seconds of the auction? Every coin I win on eBay, I only bid once, and it's 3 seconds before the end (the buck stops there). If I want the coin, I max-bid to the highest amount I would like to pay, and if it hits, it hits, if it doesn't, then it doesn't. Why get into a bidding war 2 days before the item ends, just set a reminder on your phone, 5 min before the end of auction, grab a cold beer and then wait to hook that fish! I have not had a 100% success rate with this strategy, but it works way more than it fails (slow Internet connection or not enough in my max-bid are the only downfall in this strategy). To each his own, but what Morgandude did and just putting in a max bid certainly are not the same thing, IMO.

Sorry--if you were bidding on it, I would have let you have it. CT etiquette--my bad.

He's a dealer who specializes in toned coins, and acquires them to sell for clients at consignment. In addition, as much as we are digging around for toned coins, it is his occupation, so Shane has resources that are beyond what most of us have. He's extremely good at assembling a bevy of absolutely incredible looking coins, and trying to maximize auction outcomes for his clients--that is commendable. :)
